Finally got the mini split for the garage

Got it installed a few hours ago. Since the garage door is facing west it’s getting a ton of heat right now and I can definitely feel the heat radiating off the door. I’ll give it a few days before I do anymore upgrades. Also got an exhaust hookup to vent fumes directly outside.

I got the mini split after all

Just got the mini split installed. I’ll give it about an hour before I judge it. I can definitely feel the heat radiating off the garage door so depending on how it feels over the next few days I may consider one of those garage door insulation kits but I really don’t want to be messing with that unless I actually have to

Do I really need AC or humidity control?

Anyone here in a really humid climate like Houston using their garage as a workshop? What are y’all doing for humidity and comfort?

I’m turning my garage into my 3D printing workspace, and I do primarily resin printing, so temperature and humidity actually matter beyond just whether I’m comfortable out there.

My original plan was to eventually install a mini-split, but now I’m starting to question whether I actually need one.

Today I had the garage door open and it was around 85% humidity. After closing the garage door and sitting out there for about 30 minutes, the temperature was still 91°F, but the humidity dropped to about 63% and surprisingly, I was actually comfortable. I always assumed the heat was what made the garage miserable, but I’m starting to understand humidity was the bigger problem.

So now I’m considering holding off on the mini-split and doing something much simpler:

Add a good, quiet fan for airflow
Monitor the humidity, especially at night since that’s when most of my printing will happen
If it consistently stays above the low 60s, add a dehumidifier and try to keep it somewhere around 50–55% RH

The garage ceiling is spray-foamed, the attic above it is conditioned, and the wall shared with the interior of the house is also spray-foamed. The other garage walls may not be insulated. I was speaking to the construction supervisor for the builder that built the home and he says only the wall that’s shared with the house and the ceiling has spray foam but I swear when we walked the house before drywall, there was spray foam on all three walls

For those of you in Houston, Florida, Louisiana, or anywhere else humid as hell, what does your garage stay at for temperature/RH, and what have you done to control humidity without fully air-conditioning it?

I’m especially curious if anyone running resin printers has gotten away with just a dehumidifier + fan, and what the space feels like during the summer.

Has anyone bought or built a cabinet enclosure?

I’m purchasing my first home, and I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to completely rethink my resin printing setup and be more intentional about both safety and aesthetics.
My current setup is:
VIVOSUN S326 (3’ x 2’) grow tent
AC Infinity CLOUDLINE PRO S4 inline fan with a carbon filter, vented out a window
Elegoo Saturn 4 Ultra
Wash station inside the tent
Overall, it’s worked pretty well, but my workflow is honestly atrocious. 😂
For post-processing, I have a silicone mat sitting on the floor right outside the grow tent. Every time I remove a print, resin inevitably drips onto the mat while I’m transferring it to my wash station. Since I’m working on the floor, I occasionally step in the resin and end up tracking it around the room.
Since I’m moving everything into the garage at the new house, I’d like to build (or preferably buy) a cabinet enclosure so the printer, post-processing area, and everything related to resin has its own dedicated home.
I’ve been brainstorming with ChatGPT and came up with the concept attached. The idea is to use a heavy-duty steel shelving unit as the frame and turn it into a cabinet with solid side panels, acrylic doors, interior lighting, and an inline exhaust vented outside.
My problem is… I can’t seem to find anyone selling something like this. Maybe I’m just searching the wrong terms.
Has anyone purchased a cabinet like this, or is everyone building them from scratch?
If you built yours:
What cabinet or shelving system did you start with?
Is there a company that sells something similar?
If you had to do it all over again, what would you change?
I’m not going to lie, Im not big into DIY. 😂 I’m definitely capable of building it if I have to, but if there’s already a well-built commercial option out there, I’d love to know before I start making one myself.

Has anyone used 3D Spot?

I commissioned them to make a sculpt of Megan Thee Stallion in a Gojo cosplay. Took about two months and I think they did a pretty solid job.
