Hypothetical End Date

Let's say that someone is hypothetically planning on starting a graduate academic program in July/August 2027. They work in a customer-facing role and so will likely have one or more customer assignments at any given point in their tenure.

When this person informs their TL that they are pursuing this path, how much longer are they typically allowed to stay on their projects before their end date? I presume that shortly after that initial conversation happens, an end date is set. Is the gap between the initial conversation and that end date typically 1 month, 3 months, etc? Let's assume that this person is slightly above average in their role.

Submitting 'Why Law' statement as an addendum?

For schools whose personal statement prompts (1) are open invitations to discuss personal experiences that, while tied to 'why law?' in a thematic sense, are not detailed descriptions of specific legal aspirations, and (2) do not have a discrete option elsewhere in the application to provide information about specific legal aspirations and the reasons for holding them (e.g., a 'why law' essay prompt), would it be ok to submit my 'why law?' statement as an addendum, given that the instructions do not disallow such a submission?
