Sub 35k EV's

I got a Yaris Cross Hybrid AWD mid 2023 (have 45k kms on it). Seeing them listed for above 30k on Carsales has been making me question if I should sell this privately and go for a sub 35k EV.

So far these are my top 3:

  1. MG4 Urban Essence 43 ($31,990) 316km WTLP
  2. GWM Ora 5 Lux ($33,990) 430km WTLP
  3. GAC Aion UT Premium ($32,990) 430km WLTP

Everyone I have spoken with seems to think this is a dumb idea to let go of a known reliable fuel efficient car that will run flawlessly until at least 200k kms (another 10 years as I drive 15k a year atm).

My main issue with the Yaris is to have to max the engine when overtaking someone above 100k km/h yet still failing if there is a slight incline.

Usually I drive 60kms for work daily. Have 1-2 days of work from home every week. Once a fortnight I drive 300 round trip kms for a meeting (may need a top up charge for this, could use a coffee tbh).

Would you do this. I dont expect to get 30k for the Toyota. Got 25k instant offer from Carsales, makes me think I can get at least 28k privately.

If you would do this. Which out of the 3 I have shortlisted makes the most sense?

Door ding removal

Accumulated close to 20 door dings due to living among heathens and having no option other than to park in between their cars.

Now that I don't have to park there anymore I think it's time for my 2 year old car to get some love.

Due to the huge number of these dents I think I need to learn how to do it myself.

Just curious what it would cost if I were to pay someone to fix these?

Mysterious case of the shrunk vegetable/fruit drawer

Some 10 years ago we needed some additions/renovations on the house. Decided to move out for 6 months and rent while the works finish.

Movers came in and were loading the truck. We wanted the fridge to be last appliance to be unplugged and loaded. When it came time for it we emptied it, I took the vegetable/fruit drawer out. The drawer looks something like the drawer on this.

Went to the house we were renting as this was the last item to be loaded. First item unloaded was fridge. Plugged the fridge in, my dad puts the fruit drawer in and tells me it has shrunk. I examined it and it is a bit smaller, the slide rails do not touch the fridge from the sides. It is 80% the size what it used to be.

The fridge only had 1 drawer, wasn't possible for it to have been swapped. Explored the possibility of us keeping the drawer from our last fridge which could have just been found and we have mistakenly swapped it. This wasn't possible either as all the veg/fruit was still loaded. Checked online, this was the correct drawer for this fridge. Exhausted every plausible explanation, checked the fridge for distortion. Checked if the drawer expanded/shrunk with temp change. Visited the house to see if the original was left behind. Checked the truck. Checked if this drawer fit elsewhere, nope this fridge only had 1 drawer. There weren't any slide rails, this drawer doesn't fit anywhere else. I wasn't willing to give up on this but nothing made sense, I spent way too much time and energy to figure it out but had to give up in the end.

6 months later we moved back. My dad comes and says the drawer fits now. Examining shows it fits on the side slide rails perfectly. I wasted another month trying to find an explanation. I was really tempted to move the fridge back to the rented house to test a theory but I couldn't.

Have helped with a few moves since, always have my eye on the drawer. Haven't got a clue what happened back then.

Delivery photo requirement

I unfortunately order a lot of delivery through UE. I live in an apartment where the intercom doesnt work. I need to go down to collect every delivery from the street.

Last month I placed a $100 order that had 3 meals. The delivery driver rocks up and hands me a tiny plastic bag. Having placed this order a dozen times before I know this is the cold items bag (drinks + salad). Ask where the food is and he says this is all he was given.

I was starving and thought well it seems I got free drinks and salad, will be lodging a ticket for missing food items. Made a ticket and was refunded.

Since then every delivery driver that comes in hands me the food and wants to take a photo of it having been delivered.

Is this coming from the app? Never did they ask for photo's until that delivery. Are they blacklisting clients that complain?

What if the HDMI ki**#s someone

Hospital equipment seems dead. No display.

At its core it is a PC running Windows 10. Has an interface board that connects some equipment. Has a screen connected via HDMI. Has a usb connected keyboard.

Plug in a new monitor, no change. Try with a new HDMI cable and it works. These are not visible cables, I have the covers off the device.

Tell my boss it's fixed after I installed a new HDMI cable. He asks how come you had the part to fix it? Explain HDMI cables are not common and I just always carry one.

He consults the service manual and explains we have to buy the official cable from the manufacturer. I tell him this manufacturer will take 3 months to send us the $200 cheapest/generic cable. So just let me use it.

He apparently flags it with his boss. So my boss's boss calls me telling me not to do it. Ask why and he says what if a patient dies, we will be responsible for it. Just use the official cable.

Moments later my boss's boss's boss emails everyone stressing the importance of always using the official parts when doing anything.

None of them on the chain understand what HDMI is or what it does.

Healthy number of actionable emails per day?

Step out and get busy with a few actual tasks for half the day. Come back and there are 30 emails needing action.

Taking a sick day or being occupied with stuff means coming back to 50 emails per day.

I know my boss probably gets a lot more than this, but he doesn't have to do anything else, his job is emailing others to delegate tasks.

I am struggling actioning emails on top of my actual work it seems. Makes me question if this is normal now it too many useless emails being asked by non stakeholders cc'ing my boss asking why/how/when on every nitty gritty action we make.

Office and BO

I've been working here for the last year. It is an open seating arrangement. Monitors setup with USB C docks where you plug in your laptop and everything comes to life (keyboard, mouse, monitor, charging).

I sometimes end up next to this girl who gives out odours that attack the senses. As a middle-aged man (older and her junior) in the company, I can not have a chat with her about it, so dont suggest that.

She has been working here for 5 years. I observe the reactions of people who sit next to her on days I am lucky enough to sit away from her. No one is giving any reactions, not even a brow lift. I do not have a superior sense of smell either. Absolutely no one seems bothered by it.

I get along with another man my age at the workplace. Once, I tried bringing it up, and he shut me down immediately. This is not something he wanted to talk about.

Contemplated for months if I should post this here. I dont even know if it is PC to talk about this out loud. The HR team is all female. I do not want to bring this up when clearly I am the only one with an issue.

The question is. Is there anything I can do about this?
