Where to buy "normal" bricks

I'm a huge Lego fan so have been excited to introduce my toddler to Duplo, we've bought a few sets and I've found that the main focus seems to be on figurines, objects, and special bricks and there's very few simple bricks, particularly 2x4 bricks.

I've looked through all the Duplo on the Lego website (UK), and even the assorted box doesn't have much in the way of standard blocks and has quite a lot of special blocks and figurines.

Whilst she loves imaginative play with the figures and cars and animals etc, I'd also like to be able to introduce her to building houses and towers and castles and whatever she can imagine, but we can't really do that with the bricks we have.

Is my only option to buy second hand and hope it's genuine Duplo and decent quality, or are there any current sets which have a higher number of the boring/standard bricks?

Thanks in advance!

Thoughts on using this duvet cover for a fleece?

I've found this fab looking teddy fleece duvet cover, and thought it would be great to make a quarter zip fleece jumper for my daughter (and possibly a matching one for me!).

I've made quite a lot of clothes now, but I've never made any outer garments and have no idea if this kind of fleece would be an absolute nightmare to work with, or if there are other reasons not to use it (it's 100% polyester - would this make it too sweaty? Presumably thats been thought about as it's designed to be a duvet cover so you wouldn't want to get too sweaty whilst sleeping?)

Any thoughts or advice greatly received whilst I decide whether to open it and cut it up, or whether to return it!

ELI5: MTHFR gene and folic acid

I've been seeing chat about "40% of people have the MTHFR gene and can die if they take folic acid" circulating (to paraphrase various comments on social media) - it seems like it is the latest thing for influences to sell people etc on, but unlike vaccines which I feel like I know a lot about as a paediatric doctor, I don't feel I know enough about the MTHFR gene thing to know if there's validity to the concerns about it, or if the concerns are a load of nonsense.

It's really hard to Google it because you just get lots of scaremongering websites - so if anyone can actually explain what the significance of the MTHFR gene is, and is it actually risky to take folic acid because of it, I'd be really interested!

Having looked after babies with spina bifida (and had a personal experience of neural tube defects), I'm keen to reduce the incidence and promote folic acid usage but want to be sure that I'm up to date with current evidence!

Plane cushion/toy

Hello!

I've got an aeroplane obsessed toddler who I want to make a aeroplane shaped cushion/stuffy but whenever I search for aeroplane cushion sewing pattern I get the neck cushion type ones, and searching for aeroplane toy patterns seems to come up with felted toys not sewn.

Aware it's a bit niche but has anyone come across a pattern like this?

Thanks in advance!
