First Shiny

I was just thinking to myself after seeing all these shiny pokemon people are getting on reddit that I've never actually found one in the wild and what do you know I run into this guy. Only took 20 years of playing. Little bastard knew whirlwind too. Good thing I used a Masterball.

It's been 20 years

This is Pokémon Silver. I haven't beat this game in 20 years. I forgot how fun it was! I've been playing HGSS instead whenever I want to visit Johto. There is definitely a charm to this game. Especially the sprites. The improvements feom gen 1 was massive. I miss this old feel. I always play with no items during battle, no legendaries or pseudo, and on set mode to make it harder and in imo more fun. This time, i also chose not to use water pokemon as they are overpowered, especially when taught ice moves. So, no ice or electric moves on this run. The team I chose was more defensive imo. Makes the game more interesting actually when you play defensive instead of mindlessly mashing Flamethrower/Thunderbolt at everything.

My team was:

Meganium - razor leaf, body slam, leech seed, light screen. So I didn't consider my chickorita my starter as I benched it immediately after I caught a geodude in the dark cave. Once I got to Goldenrod, I used headbutt to catch a male exeggcute and trained it to level 13. Then I bred it with my chickorita to learn leech seed. This absolutely made it way more fun and viable. All it needs now is a sleep powder, but oh well. Leech seed is a super fun move to use. Light screen was learned pretty late in the games but had some use. Body slam is just an amazing move with its 30% chance to paralyze. Meganium did well, and I had no problems.

Graveler - earthquake, rock throw, mud slap, self-destruct. Geo was my true starter. Geodude does great in the first 3 gyms as well as takes down most of team rocket and your rival with type coverage. It learns rock throw and Magnitude very early. Yeah definitely S tier for this game. Even in the elite 4, it does some work. I just wish it learned rock slide without breeding. Kind of a bummer. Also, quick claw attached to it. Made a difference for some battles, especially when claw activated using self-destruct against Lance's Dragonite one shotting it.

Arbok - sludge bomb, earthquake, bite, glare. Arbok gets a lot hate for its mediocre stats and move pool. Also it doesnt even have intimadate in this gen. But I would argue that it's pretty dang good. At least higher C tier. Its movepool isn't bad. Earthquake did its job in the end game. Bite was great from the beginning and helped me beat Morty. Headbutt did its job. Sludge bomb actually hits hard, especially with poison barb. And glare was almost amazing. Just wish it had a little more accuracy. Arbok could 1v1 Karen's houndoom or even Lance's Dragonite and came out as the winner most of the time. Dragons are not resistant to poison attacks, so he had it coming.

Miltank - body slam, shadow ball, milk drink, attract. Slow to level up but easily the best pokemon for most of the game. Now I understand why Whitney mained this thing. Rollout was a great move as it did a lot of work. Stomp was gross with its consistent flinching. Milk drink is a great move for the type of runs I do. Stab body slam is crazy. It's pretty fast too with good bulk. Yeah...

Skarmory - fly, steel wing, swagger, sandstorm. At the end, I gave in and caught a Skarmory. It's just too damn cool. No spikes in this gen, sadly, and it doesn't learn steel wing until 49. Which i learned when I exactly beat Lance's last pokemon. So I didn't even get to use it. It's a good move, though, especially against his aerodactyl. Stab Fly did most of the damage. However sandstorm was amazing. In this gen it does 1/8 damage every turn. It goes well with my Graveler too. You'd think it's too late to use skarmory when you meet it around Blackthorn City but this isn't true. Skarmory is a killer for the elite four. It resists Will. Demolished kogas team. Demolished Brunos team. Does okay against Karen, just don't use it against houndoom. Struggles a bit with lance but neutralizes his aerodactyl. Overall it was fun to use.
