Podcast Interview: David Furr (Dashiell Montgomery)

Hey guys,

I'm the host of a show called The Viewfinder Podcast, where for the last 7 years I've interviewed hundreds of actors, filmmakers and writers about both their projects and the creative processes that inform their work. On this week's show I've got an interview with David Furr (who played Dashiell Montgomery last season on The Gilded Age).

We talked for over an hour about his career, his background as a classically trained Shakespearean actor, his many roles on film, TV and stage (he was a Tony and Drama Desk nominee for Noises Off, and did a play called Burn This with Adam Driver, Keri Russell and Brandon Uranowitz in 2019).

He's going to be appearing next in a new film called A Long Winter w/Ebon Moss-Bachrach (The Bear) and Catriona Balfe (Outlander), as well as a new Netflix miniseries called The God of The Woods w/Maya Hawke (Stranger Things). In addition to his acting work, he is also an acting professor at UNC Greensboro (in his native North Carolina). Here's the link to the video version of the interview:

You can listen to it on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, among other platforms:

There's more to come in the next few weeks! Watch, listen, like and subscribe - and tell your friends to do the same! Thanks!

Promoting my podcast

I've used social media (X, Facebook and now Instagram) to promote my podcast for several years now, and a few weeks ago I launched the show on YouTube, but the listener and viewer numbers just aren't there (way less than a hundred for a typical episode) and considering the kind of show it is and the guests I interview (actors, filmmakers, writers, authors - not A-list by any means but certainly those who work in the industry) I'm concerned.

Would cross-promotion with other shows/podcasters work? Would reaching out to guests asking them to promote the show not only to audiences but to others in their creative fields help? I should also mention that only now is the show getting a more consistent release schedule since I've worked on getting a lot of guests on in the past few months, and prior to that it went weeks and even months without any episodes following the previous ones.

Any suggestions are most welcomed. Thanks!

Breathing/warm-up exercise suggestions

Hey guys,

Any suggestions for good breathing/warm-up exercises? I find my jaw getting stiff the longer I read (I've tried reading articles and books just for practice) and I want to make sure that I'm physically prepared for long reads. Thanks!

ISO online classes

Voice acting is something I've been interested in for a long time but right now it's a hobby for me, and I really would like to improve my skills in terms of preparation and performance. With that in mind, anyone here have any suggestions on where I could find free (or at least affordable) virtual voice acting classes, or even online video lessons? There are acting classes in my area but they're devoted primarily to on-camera performance. Thanks for your help on this!

Rewriting a monologue

About 2 weeks ago I wrote and performed a monologue I came up with out of whole cloth about a man who reunites with an old school crush only for his meeting to be an emotionally heartbreaking experience that reveals much about his own failings as a man.

What suggestions do you have for rewriting it aside from adding stage directions to it? Here is the video of it:

Here's the first draft of the script itself. Trying to figure out how to break up the dialogue too. Any suggestions are most welcome. Thanks!

Does anyone have any scripts from audio dramas written for just two characters - specifically those that include phone conversations? I'm planning on writing a comedy in this format and I'd like to know how everything looks on the page. Also, any suggestions for shows that only include two characters in conversation? Thanks so much!

Absolutely disturbing. Why does it feel like they're trying to stamp out the Democratic Party with disgusting actions like this?

u/Horror_Ad_8149 — 2 months ago

Though laughable, it's still concerning to see this administration going after its opponents so aggressively. Any reasons to be optimistic?
