Gave my sister-in-law's Kirsten doll a hair makeover! Ft. my own childhood Kirsten.

During our Christmas visit to my mother-in-law's house at the end of last year, I came across my sister-in-law's American Girl dolls. I'm lucky enough that my own Kirsten is in mint condition (shoutout to my absolutely fastidious and anxious child self), but I've been wanting to restore an AG doll's hair for years! This was the perfect opportunity, so I got my SIL's permission, and brought Kirsten home with me.

She sat for a while in my to-do project pile. Last night, my husband and I saw Girl Dolls: An American Musical, which was all about AG dolls, and was spectacular. It inspired me to take my quiet Saturday and finally dive into Kirsten's hair.

I washed and conditioned it, brushed it out, let it air dry, and very, VERY carefully used a hot iron on the lowest setting. The bangs took a lot of finagling and shaping to get right. If you're looking at this in the future for your own makeover, know that you still have a few moments to shape it after you hot iron it. Take the iron to it, and then immediately use flat clips to shape it, and let it sit while it sets.

The braids were the most time consuming (shoutout to my absolutely fastidious and anxious current self) but I think I got them as perfect as I possibly could!

The last photo is her sitting next to my own Kirsten on the right, and I think her makeover is looking really great! I'm thrilled with how she turned out.

Got pulled over in Massachusetts this weekend because my plate frame is covering the state. Obviously my fault, but I just laughed and told the cop about how you basically don't even need a license plate anymore in Philly.

Edit: My PLATE # is not obscured, I censored it in Canva to keep it private. I realize this is confusing. My plate # is completely 100% visible in real life. The state "Pennsylvania" is the only thing that's accidentally obscured.

I've never been pulled over in my 18 years of driving, and was shocked when I saw the police lights behind me while driving home from Massachusetts after Mother's Day. Figured it would be a dead headlight or something, but the cop gave me a warning about how my plate frame is covering the state.

Imagine the laugh I had!! The number of cars we see driving in Philly with expired/fake temp plates, fully obscured plates, and no plates at all, and I get pulled over for this in another state. Obviously can't be mad, it's such a special treat! Shoutout to Mass for enforcing traffic laws! I deserved it.

Edit: The plate frame thing is unintentional. It was a gift from my bff, and I honestly didn't even realize it was obscuring the plate, that's my mistake.

Like many of you, I have dozens of these Diptyque drawstring bags. I’m constantly trying to find ways to enjoy them, and I’ve been using one to transport all my Dungeons and Dragons crap! It’s the perfect accessory to carry my dice, tray, tower, notebook, etc.

Question 1: What do y’all use your lil bags for?

Question 2: What’s the overlap of DnD folks and luxury candle folks? I’m sure there are dozens of us! 😅

Please use this thread to post about discount retailer inventory & candle finds (ie: Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Ross, Costco, Walmart).

**This is not a general sale thread. General brand sales are still welcome on the main feed. This is for the discount retailers listed above.**

We encourage you to post luxury candles you saw on the shelf at discount retailers, alerts about online discount retailer sales, etc.

In-store and online discount retailer posts will be removed from the main sub.

We still welcome photos of your hauls and actual purchases on the main feed, regardless of where they were bought.

Our May BST thread is officially open!

If you have candles to trade, sell, or are looking to purchase, leave a comment below.

Here are some simple guidelines to help keep you safe in BST transactions-

General BST rules:

Only post items you currently have in your possession.

Include size, how many times lit, percentage left, etc.

When paying through PayPal, use the Goods and Services option. There is a fee, but this will protect the purchase and ultimately both the buyer and seller if something goes awry.

When posting either items to sell or items you are in search of, include your location (country). This will help folks figure out if shipping would be domestic or international.

As always, use your discretion and BST at your own risk. Mods cannot assist with BST issues or transactions.

It’s a big moment for the luxury candle world.

Diptyque has officially rolled out a full redesign of their iconic vessels, released a wave of new scents, introduced refillables, and increased their base candle prices. Whether you’re excited, skeptical, disappointed, or somewhere in between, there’s a lot to unpack, and we know this community has thoughts.

We’ve already seen an incredible surge of posts and discussion around these changes, which we love! This is the kind of engaged, thoughtful (and sometimes spicy) conversation that makes this sub great. That said, the volume is starting to take over the feed a bit, and we want to make sure there’s still room for the wide range of brands, reviews, and content that brought everyone here in the first place.

Here’s the plan:

For the next two weeks, all discussion related to Diptyque will live in this megathread. This includes any and all Diptyque purchases and reviews, the redesign, new releases, pricing changes, etc.

Any new standalone posts about Diptyque during this period will be removed, and you’ll receive a note directing you back here to repost your thoughts! Our intentions are entirely positive, and our goal is to cleanse some palettes and de-clutter the main feed.

Think of this as a central hub for everything:

  • All Diptyque purchases and reviews
  • Smelling Diptyque scents in person
  • First impressions of the new vessels
  • Thoughts on the updated aesthetic
  • Reviews or early burns of the new scents
  • Reactions to the price increases
  • Comparisons to older versions
  • Insider intel and general “industry” knowledge about Diptyque
  • Customer service questions/advice
  • Hot takes, deep dives, and everything in between

We’re hoping this keeps the conversation lively and helps the main feed feel a little less one-note during what is, frankly, a watershed moment for the sub.

A Quick Note on Tone & Conduct

We know this is a passionate topic, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Opinions are welcome here. Thoughtful critiques, passionate adoration, and a well-articulated take on why the redesign/price increase isn’t working for you all have a home here.

But this thread will be closely monitored, and we expect everyone to keep things respectful.

There’s a clear difference between:

  • Sharing your disappointment or critique of the changes
  • Sharing your ardent love of the new look and price
  • Dismissing, mocking, or dogpiling someone else for liking or disliking it

You’re free to dislike the new vessels, defend the pricing, or be entirely neutral the new scents. You are not free to turn that into taking shots at other users who feel differently.

If your comment crosses into rudeness, hostility, or personal digs, it may be removed. Repeat issues may result in further moderation action.

Let’s keep this space kind, honest, and enjoyable for everyone, even when we disagree.

So, with all that out of the way, sound off below! We can't wait to hear your thoughts, see reviews, and keep the Diptyque party going!

Thank you for being such a great community,

-Your Mods 🕯️❤️
