Gave my sister-in-law's Kirsten doll a hair makeover! Ft. my own childhood Kirsten.
During our Christmas visit to my mother-in-law's house at the end of last year, I came across my sister-in-law's American Girl dolls. I'm lucky enough that my own Kirsten is in mint condition (shoutout to my absolutely fastidious and anxious child self), but I've been wanting to restore an AG doll's hair for years! This was the perfect opportunity, so I got my SIL's permission, and brought Kirsten home with me.
She sat for a while in my to-do project pile. Last night, my husband and I saw Girl Dolls: An American Musical, which was all about AG dolls, and was spectacular. It inspired me to take my quiet Saturday and finally dive into Kirsten's hair.
I washed and conditioned it, brushed it out, let it air dry, and very, VERY carefully used a hot iron on the lowest setting. The bangs took a lot of finagling and shaping to get right. If you're looking at this in the future for your own makeover, know that you still have a few moments to shape it after you hot iron it. Take the iron to it, and then immediately use flat clips to shape it, and let it sit while it sets.
The braids were the most time consuming (shoutout to my absolutely fastidious and anxious current self) but I think I got them as perfect as I possibly could!
The last photo is her sitting next to my own Kirsten on the right, and I think her makeover is looking really great! I'm thrilled with how she turned out.
