I am over 59.5 and have a traditional IRA at Fidelity and no Roth IRA. I plan to make conversions to a Roth IRA starting in 2027. It doesn’t make any sense for me to convert anything of consequence in 2026 that due to tax reasons.
I am trying to understand whether and how the 5 year rule applies to me and, if it does, whether there is any advantage in doing a small Roth conversion in 2026 to get the 5 year clock started.
I guess my questions is, since I’m over 59.5, do I still have to wait 5 years post-conversion to avoid any penalty or taxes on a withdrawal of earnings? And if it does, is there a separate 5 years clock for each conversion?
Does an ETrade brokerage account pay interest on unvested cash similar to the way Fidelity does on the core balance its brokerage account?
I have an iPhone and use FaceID to enter my password to logon to the Fidelity app. Is there a way to avoid having to enter in a code that’s texted my phone every time I logon?
