[theme] dsi-puh-lus update

Download: https://github.com/thatgameovergirl/dsi-puh-lus/releases/tag/v.2.1
Based on https://github.com/beebono/dii-ess-aye by u/beebono
Special thanks to u/NiKo_OnReddit who has been supporting this project a lot since the start :)

Features

  • Works with both screens — The theme knows your device has two displays. Everything is placed exactly where it needs to go, nothing bleeds off the edge.
  • Pick your background — Choose between "Castlevania Throne" and "Mario Castle" in the settings menu. Swap any time.
  • System icons pop — Each console's logo and controller art have a soft white outline so they're easy to see even against dark areas.
  • Fancy system selector — Browse your consoles with a golden glow around the selected one and a little red arrow that bounces above it.
  • Clean game list — Game names show up on a see-through panel with resized box art beside them. Looks sharp.
  • Your RetroAchievements name — If you use achievements, your username shows at the top of the screen.
  • Battery, clock, Wi-Fi — All the usual status icons are styled to match the theme instead of looking out of place.
  • Bonus tools included — A one-click installer and uninstaller you run from the Ports menu, a cleaning tool for messy names and a helper for scraping game info over SSH.

What's changed since last month?

- Fixed bug that prevented FBneo and MSX emulators from running.

- Fixed bug that made the default background permanent, now you can change the background.

- Fixed background scrolling when navigating between systems

- Removed golden overlay from the game carousel selection

- Subtle separator lines added between game list entries.

- New helper tools, clean_gamelists_dsi-puh-lus.py and stub_missing_games.py let you clean up messy game names and fill in missing entries.

- Install script fixed. The enable script now restarts ES at the end.

- Uninstall script. You can now fully remove the theme.

Will there be more updates? Probably, I think the top screen looks empty most of the time but still need to figure out what I want to put in there (Probably videos + description)

Why don't we have notifications? The RG DS has two screens, but this theme has to work with a stretched canvas that's wider than what's actually visible. That "invisible" area is where the notification popups end up, so you never see them. There's no fix without rewriting how EmulationStation places its popups.

dsi-puh-lus — a real dual-screen theme for the Anbernic RG DS

A ground-up theme that actually treats it like the dual-screen device it is: system art, status info, and RetroAchievements on the top screen, navigation and game lists on the bottom. DS-style, the way it should be.

https://preview.redd.it/8w7axkwwny5h1.jpg?width=899&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69d71b39c766e5d7e2ac8090a93aa0ef8d485d71

What you get:

  • True top/bottom split that respects the seam between the two panels
  • Switchable backgrounds (Castlevania Throne, Mario Castle — more coming)
  • Glowing hero art/logos so dark covers don't vanish into dark backgrounds
  • Custom carousel with a golden glow + animated pointer
  • Live RetroAchievements username in the status bar
  • One-tap install from the Ports menu

Runs on ROCKNIX for the Anbernic RG DS. Grab it, install steps, and known issues (yep, the on-screen keyboard quirk is a sway/compositor thing, not the theme) all in the GitHub release.

old 3ds emulate NES on top screen and use guides on bottom screen

Testing the new version on an old n3DS XL and it looks just too beautiful. I'm thinking about adding a setting tab to choose between 1:1 or wide screen. But don't know if I should mess with bezels and risk wasting vram.

V2NES Dual-Screen NES Emulator for 3ds

Hi everyone, I've been working on a little project as a hobby (masochism, I know) - I got myself an Anbernic RG DS and I play NES games mostly so I started thinking that my old 3ds could handle the same workload...well, mostly.

Anyways, V2NES is a fork from VirtuaNes, plays NES games on the top screen while viewing game maps and guides on the bottom screen.

What's working right now?

  • Full NES emulation — 180+ mappers, NDSP audio, CPU/PPU/APU, savestates (3 slots)
  • Bottom-screen maps — custom .v2m format supporting single and multi-tile images with zoom/pan
  • Walkthrough guides — scrollable .txt guides with word-wrap and position bookmarking
  • Auto-map switching — detects dungeon/level changes via real NES RAM values (Zelda, SMB)
  • Player-position marker — red dot on overworld maps, calibrated via .pos sidecar files
  • Touch screen UI — aquamarine glow theme with HUD controls and button overlays
  • Map caching — preloads maps for instant switching, with VRAM-aware eviction
  • Folder-organized browser — maps, walkthroughs, and ROMs organized by game prefix

The files are here https://github.com/thatgameovergirl/V2NES

This zip includes the MAPS and Guide already working with TLoZ NES. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1OUpbhF4FEbgH9E4FD8cLQqtCqE7SuJSM/view?usp=drive_link

I'd appreciate anyone with a NEW 3ds or 2DS to take a look.

Thanks !
