Where do I start?

I am a software engineering major, and as a sophomore my next semester I am going to begin my introduction to programming courses, but I want to start practicing on my own and have my own bare of basics in my field of study. What should I do first? Are there any books that I should buy that would help me in my studies prior to my courses? What would be the first thing you would tell someone that has no knowledge in the field they are getting into?

“She’s out There” (24M)

Tired of my elders, particularly women or women that i’m friends with reciting this same recycled Romeo & Juliet line. Hate to be Mr.AntiPositivity, but I would honestly rather not be asked at all about my love life or relationships with women just to remind me of all my failed past experiences. Not sure why girls do it particularly but it’s annoying, not really much else to it. I’d rather not be asked at all than reminded of situations that only left me empty or hurt. But I suppose it may just be in women’s nature to remind you of how lonely you are and to spiel live fairytales. I guess they think it’s supposed to make me or anyone else they tell the same to feel better.
