Is Microsystems/Embedded Engineering a good career choice in Germany?
Why does almost every international student in Germany choose CSE, AI, or Data Science for master’s? Is the job market really much easier in those fields?
I’ve been researching a lot and found that places like Bavaria and Saxony actually have strong embedded systems and semiconductor industries (automotive, chips, microsystems, etc.). I’m planning for OTH Regensburg in Microsystems Engineering, and also looked at Chemnitz University of Technology and TU Dresden for embedded/nanoelectronics.
But still, most people prefer AI/DS/CSE. Is it because software jobs are easier to get? Or are embedded/semiconductor jobs harder for international students?
I currently have B1 German, so I’m also trying to understand how important German language skills are in embedded/semiconductor roles compared to software jobs.
Also, why do people still prefer TUs so much over Hochschulen/FHs? From what I heard, Hochschulen are actually very practical and industry-focused.
Would love to hear honest opinions from people already studying or working in Germany.
