Need Help Choosing a Major
Hello!
I'm entering grade 12 and trying to finalize a university application list... I love math, physics, and geology the most; however, I adore all subjects except business. I would say I dislike coding and chemistry, but to be fair, I haven't taken any courses in those subjects, so I do not know.
Some things I definitely want to do are learn about maths and physics. However, I enjoy those subjects best when they're applied, and I can see them and understand them visually and physically. However, I'm not picky with math and physics. With geology, I am picky. I love learning about Earth processes, natural disasters, seismic waves, etc... But I don't enjoy being outdoors much, and would definitely dislike having to be outside exploring and hiking... Another thing I know would be tough on me is being in a major that leads to a job where you have to make life-altering decisions. I would not be able to work in a hospital, or be someone like a lawyer or an air traffic controller...
Back to the idea of disliking coding, though, I'm truly unsure. I'm pretty confident I would hate software development kind of coding... I would likely be alright with working with code in my job, but not working with code as my job. Also, an important distinction, but with math and physics... I'd prefer not to create and conceptualize things with them, but I'd like to use them as a tool to determine something...?
Sorry if I sound picky or unrealistic; I just feel like this is something so detrimental to my life... I've been thinking about majoring in geophysics or mathematical physics so far... but I'm not sure if they're too niche or focused? I'll be honest, I'm a bit intimidated to major in pure physics or math despite how much I love it... I know it's DIFFICULT. Most majors are, though.
Anyway, thank you for reading this! If anyone has any ideas about what would be a good fit for me, I'd love to know.
(OH also I forgot to mention- I didn't take high school chemistry so I can't major in any engineering programs... I don't despise chemistry; it's something I can get around [I hope?]... but it's a common prerequisite for science programs in Canada, so I'm a little restricted...)
