Steam charts posts and comments during the first 24 hours after Vault Breaker release

Did anyone else see how Steam charts posts and comments were all of a sudden allowed over there? During the first few hours it looked like it would actually bring some people back there was a massive influx of comments talking about steam numbers and charts and how the game was saved.

Funny how that worked out.

Leadership Change Confirms We’ve Got Time

Silver lining view (assuming he was forced out rather than just leaving after vesting)

But if they were gonna shut this game down within the next 6 months, I don’t think they change leadership; they just let it die as is. Changing leadership would be pretty pointless considering development timelines to make any legitimate game changes.

To me shows some serious time/resource commitment to support a new direction

State of the main sub and where are the mods?

Looking at the state of the main sub with the massive influx of posts regarding matchmaking and more general complaints, I am starting to wonder. where are the mods? Just a few weeks ago they would have nuked every single complaint under the guise of "Bad faith post" and "Not on topic".

Could it be that they got torn a new one by Bungie/Sony because of the way they have been handling the sub. Letting the toxic positivity fester to a degree where even the most casuals are aware of it, and on top of that responsible for a non zero amount of lost sales.

2 Weeks of Silence Is Not that Weird After a Layoff

Miserable Corpo World Insights:

You've just seen half your company laid off. A majority of the leadership who cosigned and executed this immediately takes time off afterwards because they're "exhausted" and firing so many people is "traumatic" (they're assholes). Such the reorganization falls on to the 2nd in commands.

Who still works here and who doesn't? Good luck you're probably not entirely sure about that for at least a week. What am I responsible for and who is my boss now? You're going to have to wait for a meeting to find out.

Your teams go about restructuring. That means every single timeline gets reevaluated. That means every single responsibility matrix gets updated. These require conversations and skill evaluations. Meanwhile your workload likely increases because you're coving someone else's stuff for the foreseeable future. Better hope they kept good documentation or you've got a lot of homework! Unfortunately, nothing you're laboring at gets completed because the new timelines and what's in scope for updates is still TBD.

HR divvies out promotions and pats on the back so the remaining survivors don't panic or leave. This takes time and needs to align with the new responsibility matrix and organization structure. This means, you guessed it, more meetings...

Seems like a mess? We'll you've got 2 weeks. Why? Because every lunatic project management approach whether Agile, Sprint, Waterfall or whatever somehow got preordained 2 weeks as the unit of measure before the universe was set in motion and that's what all the orgs agree upon. As they say, "God made creation in all of 1 week but if He had a Project Manage it would've been done in 2."

What am I Saying:

Two weeks of silence after a massive layoff isn't that weird. It wouldn't be surprising if they have a 2 week deadline one revisiting their coms strategy in light of the layoffs. There are a lot of people likely head down working on shit that will eventually see the light of day. Likewise, there are also likely a lot of people hurt, confused, and running around trying to figure out what is going on at Bungie. It takes time to get oriented, especially when your org is big. Some of those people gave you art and experiences you cared about, I understand hating the management, but considering maybe giving the actual people a bit of grace.

I think the main sub is having its "Are we the baddies?" moment

Seems like slowly but surely the criticism can't be contained anymore in the main sub. More posts complaining about the time it takes to matchmake and the comments reflecting that. Glazers are actually getting downvoted and legit complains and criticism is being upvoted.

This would have never been possible just a week ago. The vibe is definitely changing and it seems they are slowly waking up and realizing the damage that has been done to the player count.

Marathon is the most intense PvP experience I’ve had since Halo 3; it gets my heart racing. And it’s sad so many FPS players hated because of weird narratives and never gave it a chance.

EDIT: I saw plenty of FPS streamers refuse to even try the game - and for some reason were repulsed… I just didn’t understand not even trying it as an FPS streamer.

Out of all the Concord like games, Marathon has provided the most entertainment

In the beginning my hopes were rather low regarding Marathons Concord journey. There was a tiny chance it might actually succeed and break the Concordian timeline.

But now looking back at the long and grueling journey of the past 4 Months, I have to admit, that Marathon has given us so much free entertainment like no other failed live service game.

- They created a community so toxic that even the most casual of gamers is aware of what kind of cult it has become.

- Bungie is toast and has already lost 50% of its employees.

- It cost Sony 3.5 billion dollars to acquire Bungie and they have not made a single cent in profits so far.

And now that even 10k CCU on steam is wishful thinking we are entering the end game. I can't wait for another 4 Months of pure entertainment, if the game even survives that long.

Talking about the Marathon sub IN the Marathon sub is not being on Topic. Can't make this shit up

Layoffs are official: Now we'll see the main sub cannibalize itself

These are exciting times for non Marabots. The layoffs are happening, the player count will soon hit sub 10k, and the main sub is in full on cope mode and is starting to cannibalize itself. This is the start of a golden age for the hate sub.

The amount of free entertainment we'll get will be glorious.

And while all this is happening with Marathon, Destiny 2 is still peaking at over 100k.

S3–not S2–was always the planned pivot point

A lot of us wondered why S2 marketing was nonexistent. The simplest answer is there isn’t any money/goodwill left.

Option 2–and I might be OD’ing on copium—I don’t think Season 2 was the planned pivot point for Bungie/Sony; it was always Season 3. Your primary issue is getting new players, and S3 is when onboarding gets overhauled. With onboarding and new casual modes based on S2 experiments, that’s when you go all in on marketing. Sponsored** **Twitch streams, ads, etc.

I’m sure they wanted better S2 numbers, but let’s be real, how much has actually changed for new players? An even scarier version of a pre-existing map, an experimental/temporary PvP-lite mode, a TBC PvE mode, and a new upgrade system most new players likely won’t even consider. Oh and a final D2 update a week after launch? Not the time to spend any of the marketing $$$ you have left.

The onboarding still sucks for players on the fence. A motivated player will power through, but most won’t. I brought 3 friends in to try the game, and tbh I felt overwhelmed just trying to teach them. (One is buying it though!)

If S3 fails to turn it around, honestly the hill gets even steeper to climb. By S4, you have GTA6 and COD’s new DMZ to contend with. If there was any next chance, maybe S5 but I don’t know. Maybe I’ll just keep saying the next season is the pivot point!
