I am a lazy composter. Everything goes in there and I rarely if ever turn it. Now, I have zero qualms about adding urine to it, but I recently ready something about peecycling that said to keep it in a jug for six months and then dilute it. Look, I’ve been a nurse for a very long time. There is not much that can gross me out. But, my partner is already ewwy on the piss front, so keeping jugs of urine in the basement for months is a no go at my house.
However, I think my peecycling article was talking about putting it directly on plants.
So, my question is, do y’all go through all that riggamaroll just to add piss to compost or are you legit just peeing on the pile?
PS … I love that my title got me a PSA basically telling me that, yes human urine is used in compost, sometimes we joke about it, sometimes we’re serious 🤣
PPS…I have chickens now, so once full grown, I’ll stop putting everything in compost. I’ll start giving everything to chickens and compost poo and bedding(hemp)

I get that pretty much everything can be fed to chickens. I have a fabulous list of items they can and cannot eat. My question is, how old is too old? I not asking what is ok to feed them, but when.
I meal prep for a week. This is not an exact science and sometimes “leftovers” are still hanging around at week old. They look fine, smell fine, but I’m not comfortable eating them. Do the chickens get it or is it straight into the compost pile?
So, I’m loving this community and learning so much. Many of you have talked about things like, the chicks/chickens are so excited to see you because it means food.
But don’t they always have access to food? My babies aren’t quite 2 weeks old. They’re growing so fast, but I’ve seen this type of post referring to chicks as well.
Am I doing it wrong?
I got my first chicks today. I feel like I’ve read everything chicken related for weeks, but no one said they sleep like this. They keep scaring the crap out of me!
Yes, there are probably many of you laughing at me because, duh, they lay down to sleep. But warn a girl, sheesh.
Hello. I’m new to chickens and I’ve seen some people recommend feeding crushed egg shells instead of oyster shells. It seems this would cause issues with hens eating eggs, but maybe since the shells are crushed, they don’t make the association? Any personal experiences?
