

Los Santos Alive: NPC-NPC Interaction, officer driven patrols, and much more
My mod, Los Santos Alive, has been out for a while now and is currently being integrated with LSPDFR.
One of the biggest focuses of the project has been making NPCs feel less like chatbots and more like actual inhabitants of the world. NPCs are context-aware, can react to events happening around them through a reflex system, and are capable of dynamic NPC-to-NPC interactions rather than only talking to the player.
For LSPDFR, this means interactions that can naturally escalate or de-escalate based on the situation, with support for Policing Redefined actions being integrated directly into conversations.
This clip shows some of the NPC-to-NPC interaction and autonomous patrol behaviour currently being tested.

does anyone know how to fix this? for my use case I need immersion and natural voices but it feels like in 3.1 everyone sounds slightly sped up, chapper, and out of touch

Los Santos Alive is a mod for Grand Theft Auto V (Legacy & Enhanced) that integrates generative AI into NPC interaction.
This simply would not be possible without LLMs, and I think its a good example in the context of a very well developed world of how AI can create very immersive interaction.
NPCs can be spoken to through either text or realtime microphone input, and are contextually aware of:
- their role in the world (bartender, gang member, beachgoer, etc.)
- the current weather and time
- the street and district they are in
- whether they are indoors or outdoors
- nearby locations and surrounding context
When an interaction becomes meaningful, the NPC is marked as “relevant” by the system. Over time, the world begins building an inferred understanding of who that NPC is — including routines, habits, and lifestyle patterns.
A bartender you regularly speak to may later be encountered returning to work the following evening. A civilian you met outside a bar may later be found nearby unwinding after their shift.
Crimes committed by the player are also remembered within the world.
NPC reactions depend on:
- severity of the crime
- distance from the event
- time passed
- personal relevance
For example:
- bartenders may discuss the murder of another bartender nearby
- civilians near a shooting may reference it in ambient conversation
- major crimes can spread across Los Santos as rumors or news
The goal of the project is not just AI conversations, but making Los Santos feel socially reactive and alive.
