Fire Rainbow off I-90 near Stafford this afternoon
I saw this while riding passenger princess on the thruway today. I had to get some pictures because I'd never seen anything so cool in the sky before!
I looked it up:
It's called a "fire rainbow," but isn't an actual rainbow. This incredibly rare phenomenon is called a circumhorizontal arc. Sunlight high in the sky (>58⁰) passes through high-altitude cirrus clouds and the millions of tiny ice crystals split the prism. This phenomenon runs *perfectly parallel to the horizon.* It's super rare to see these in general, but especially how far Rochester, NY is from the equator. This means while running our errands we hit the perfect solar noon and weather conditions. They are thought to be an omen of good fortune and spiritual awakening.
