New automod safety warning added and a public message to the community
A new automatic safety warning has now been added and pinned under all buying/selling posts.
This was added because many users do not realize that even if someone is permanently banned from the subreddit, Reddit still allows banned users to directly message people privately.
The reality is that almost every Fortnite account marketplace is filled with scammers. This applies to subreddits, Discord servers, Telegram groups, forums, and pretty much anywhere account trading exists.
Because of the nature of Fortnite accounts, it is extremely easy for bad actors to scam people, especially through private messages, fake middlemen, impersonation, recovery scams, and newly created accounts.
That is exactly why moderation and automod protections in this subreddit continue to get stricter.
This new automatic pinned warning was added to help remind users that banned scammers can still privately message people even after being removed from the subreddit. Reddit bans prevent users from posting and commenting, but they do NOT stop them from sending DMs.
We are actively working to reduce scams as much as possible through:
- stricter automod rules
- new account restrictions
- middleman systems
- scam investigations
- active moderation
No system is perfect, but we will continue improving the subreddit and fighting back against scammers to keep this community as safe as possible.
Please stay cautious and read the pinned automod warnings before trading with anyone.
- avoid dealing with DM-only users
- ask users to comment publicly before trading
- be cautious of very new Reddit accounts
- avoid deals that seem too good to be true
- use trusted middlemen whenever possible
If somebody refuses to comment publicly on your post and only wants to deal through DMs, that should immediately be considered suspicious.
Please take the pinned automod warnings seriously. They are there to help protect the community from banned scammers and unsafe trades.
