Videospiel Buchclub in Graz - Würd' das überhaupt wen interessieren?

Hey Leute,

Since we'll clear about botting...what about AFK farming?

To quote of this subs own comments:

Less farm. Its not even about pay 2 win its about casual vs hard-core. The player with more time to grind will be stronger than the other and DO is a numbers game. Skill means little when your opponent hits twice as hard as you do. Imo a pvo ready ship should be able to be built in a month casually

So...what about afk farming these days in the community? Would be nice of you to post your game(s) and how afk farming (like grouping up with others, to let someone active kill npcs, at least on all the time)?

PG looks alot like it, SA also...huh?

How would you create a game with pre-rendered backgrounds, which takes strong inspiration from games like RE, DMC1 or Heart of Darkness?

Hey everyone, I’ve got a quick idea I just wanted to throw out there. If I wanted to program a game that takes strong inspiration from the way camera, character controls, and pre-rendered backgrounds work in games like Resident Evil (up to 4), Devil May Cry, or Heart of Darkness, which engine would be best suited for that? 🤔

Or is there any way to look into the files of an old .iso (burned from my old copy back in the day) to get some inspiration from the source code, and maybe even train a locally running AI that can code to help me learn how to use a really good, UI-friendly development tool? Or am I expecting too much? I honestly have no idea what these tools are capable of nowadays—but maybe someone here knows more and can shed some light on it. 😅

Anyway, have a great weekend, and take care of yourselves and your loved ones in this heat ✌️

Hey there folks!

I’ve always been pretty jumpy when it comes to video games. If a game’s story doesn’t grab me but the gameplay is excellent, I can overlook that—but then the gameplay has to be more than just a 7/10 to keep me hooked long-term. Even outstanding gameplay alone only works as motivation for a certain amount of time. With Elden Ring, for example, I was satisfied after around 100 hours.

Right now I’m in the lucky position of having the time to try out lots of new games and genres. What I’ve noticed is that if I don’t feel entertained within the first few minutes—at most within the first hour—I move on to the next game. That’s just how I am, and even though this kind of restless search for the next game can be exhausting, I’m simply not someone who “gives a game 10 hours before it gets good.” My time is too valuable for me, and my expectations for the “entertainment” in “entertainment media” are just too high i guess. 🤷‍♀️

That said, regardless of what I think, I’d really like to hear your opinion—and where better to do that than in the Bethesda subreddit, among players who clearly enjoy their style… otherwise you probably wouldn’t be here...or is this the arkham subreddit?! 🤔😂

So my question to you is: what exactly defines a Bethesda game for you, and what makes it so special? I’d also be interested in how important immersion is to you in video games, and how you experience and feel it in their titles.

I started Starfield myself about three years ago (I even upgraded my PC for it at the time), but apart from the gunplay, nothing really clicked for me. I never felt any sense of immersion—mainly because of the countless UI elements, the endless lootable items, the constant loading screens, and the extremely static dialogues and cutscenes. Things like space combat, the open world, mission structure, or the overall story setup—I didn’t even really get to experience them before I moved on to the next game.

And just to be clear, I’m not here to have members of a community convince me that this developer’s games just aren’t for me. I’m an adult and, luckily, I’m free to decide what I like and what I don’t—what I want to spend my time on and what I don’t. Right now, I’m simply curious to understand what’s behind the feeling and the emotions you had when you experienced your Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout, or Starfield moment—and what that felt like for you personally.

I’m really interested to read (if anyone takes the time and effort) what these games mean to you. Because behind all those NPCs just standing around and talking lifelessly, there’s clearly something that has enchanted so many players.

I recently installed the Oblivion remaster myself, will probably add a good combat mod first, and then give it another shot to see if Todd and his team can win me over after all.

No matter how my experience turns out, I’d love to get into a conversation with some of you—or just read about your experiences and what you expect from video games.

Wishing you all a relaxed weekend—and behave yourselves ✌️
