I spent the last year making Ashes of the Sun, a short PS1-style atmospheric horror game
Hey everyone! I just released Ashes of the Sun, a short atmospheric horror walking sim I've been working on for the past year.
It's about 15 minutes long, with retro PS1-inspired visuals, atmospheric audio, and a few hand-crafted locations.
If you're interested you can play it for free here: https://synthaxed.itch.io/ashes-of-the-sun
In a new area of my horror game you have to bring an abandoned bunker to life and survive its awakening!
I did the Gyo Fish on PSX style :)
Since I got so many good comments about the Tomie I did the other day I decided to do another one of my favorite creatures from Junji Ito.
I tried to recreate Fortitudo from Bayonetta 1 in PSX style

winter cinematic atmosphere of my game
Does this feel Cinematic 🤔?
This is the hero car of my short-film Isegami Tunnel. It's a 1995 Gr.A Subaru Impreza, sitting here at rural rice field in Hokkaido, Japan. I'm looking to capture an uneasy vibe, similar to popular J-Horrors like Pulse and Dark Water.
HHN Houses if they were a PS1 title screen | Dead Man's Pier: Winter's Wake
I'm back! Took a little break to work on some other non-HHN pieces, but I am really happy with how this one turned out.
I wanted to recreate the feeling of late 90s computer graphics using oil paint. The image wasn't painted from a screenshot, but from memories of early CGI, pre-rendered game backgrounds and low-poly aesthetics.
The dog doesn't really fit the low poly aesthetic, but I wanted it to stick out and therefore I painted it more cartoony. Also I try to not to "copy" the ps1 aesthetic 1:1 but to use it as a reference point and still have the artistic freedom to "break the rules". Hope you enjoy!
