My dungeon crawler now has an inventory with a rotating 3D model

spent 3-4 days on this and it finally works.

at first I wanted a regular grid inventory, but then I decided to add a rotating 3D model of the character on the right side, so it feels more alive than a static portrait.
also made a hand widget that follows the cursor, same as in Minecraft, items swap on click.
next I'm planning to add a player stats panel.

the game is called Plink Void, Steam page is in the comments if you want to follow the development

Quakelike sky

tried to make a layered sky, looks like Quake's sky
it's 2 huge planes with shader-based animation (UVs from world coordinates, shifted over time), locked to the camera

3D pathfinding

finally finished this waypoint navigation system!
I know NavMesh is the standard, but I think it's too complex to implement right now, and this approach works pretty well

the pathfinding speed is acceptable. To avoid placing the points manually, I built a generation system based on flood fill and collision checks (raycasts, trace hull, and cliff checks)
from a single start point, the generator branches out in all directions, and then another algorithm connects them all
I'm planning to add mesh optimization algorithms later, but even like this, it's working perfectly fine

3D pathfinding in GameMaker

trying to implement 3D pathfinding in GameMaker.

first, I tried making a voxel grid and BFS (like mp_grid_path) (see the 3rd screenshot). But that solution turned out to be very heavy and slow

I've settled on placing waypoints manually and automatically connecting them into a graph (like the PathGrid system in Morrowind/Oblivion).

once the graph is set, A* runs on the points to find the shortest path between any two nodes.

PS1 Dark Peglin

Can boomer shooter gameplay and dark fantasy like King's Field coexist in one game?

lately I've been making a game in this weird mix

I really like the atmosphere and vibes of King's Field and similar games (like Lunacid), I love Northern Journey, but at the same time I love Doom, Heretic and Dusk - but they are not about slow gameplay at all

can fast and dynamic gameplay harm the atmosphere?

I recorded a short video of my game (don't expect links or anything, it's all in a very early prototype stage)
