Anyone else super (no pun intended) pumped to see Matt King in the Fable reboot in February? Dude showed so much range in Peep Show with just one character, and even though he's proud of Peep Show and takes fans quoting (moreish) lines to him in good fun, he's way more than Simon/Super Hans.

Title says it all. In Fable, he plays the character's friend (I think?) based on the released material so far, and I can't wait!

Some actors are really, really limited in their emotional and physical range, like Mark Wahlberg, but some really shine.

What do you guys think, or has this post bored you enough to go ask someone to get you a kebab?

What're you guys' favourite off-screen lines by Amir that punctuate his surreally horrible behaviour?

Mine is when Jake quotes his email in Sandwich Email as reading: ''...Therefore, the email thread, unlike Murph's grandmother, LIVES''.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

This post is very short, unlike the brick that Amir had hurdled at him in that episode; at close range, no less.

Human Flesh Has Been Discontinued

Yo, I woke up madly driven by the fear I’d get

Drenched in news of the death of Terry Crews

I’m so glad he’s with us

Was great for him to testify, when inclined

Especially since, to those who’re fervently racist,

He fits the image that surges with hatred and was

Shown in Birth of a Nation

He stamped that reel’s grip, and laid bare a Black man’s feelings

I hope those stealthing burn in Hell’s pits, as I

Leave Mason Greenwood

Slain on meat hooks

Your thoughts of her are sickened, what’s more

His body’s no business of yours

We’re getting closer to where it’s not issued:

Human flesh has been discontinued

Excited to hear your guys' opinions: what is it about David and his work that endears you to him so deeply?

I first became aware of him in October 2023 when I was in the bath (as you are, lmao), scrolling through Spotify looking for a new artist to sink my teeth into when it spat out Random Rules!

I loved the low-fi country-style arrangement, the somewhat obscure lyrics and the sincere, gravelly voice of the bloke singing. He had a very faint lisp that reminded me of Method Man, which was cool.

I Googled PM cause the name intrigued me, scanned its Wikipedia page, and the thing that stuck with me was him in an interview describing the last track of the LP as being ''...the ultimate neo-liberal love song, as we sit in a place of peak individualism''. I thought, damn, this dude is articulate and keeps it real about capitalism's values - dope!

I loved reading Actual Air last February! It reminded me of Possessed from Rhyme Asylum's lyrics because they were so oddly imaginative, line-for-line, which is always a joy to read. One of my fave lines from the collection is deffo:

It was the marks on my chest,

(bruises from porn magazines I propped there)

that started the rumours about auxiliary

alphabets in my home.

It's so weirdly evocative, but in the most charming way. Made me think of a line that Possessed dropped in a recently-released solo track where he goes:

We are Generation X;

Keep it surreal, write bars with the pencil

Made from Eraserhead

Since then I've just been delving more into his work, in a very scattergun way, not chronologically.

PM is my favourite record cause even though it's not under the SJ moniker, I see it as a solo album in all but name; it's a pretty naked, devastating self-portrait of a guy who spent 10 years battling untreatable depression.

It's not got any of the fantastical, escapist imagery of any of the SJ work - it's all about him, his divorce, his Mum, and a general confusion of where he goes after the record is over.

There's deffo a place for the SJ universe of trains zooming across the sea, jails made of sweets, and Tennessee puns.

But I love PM cause it's his most mature work, where he doesn't try to create psychological distance between himself and his feelings with fiction. It's just raw reality.

That's what ultimately endears me to him, that he was emotionally mature and self-aware enough to do that, as well as let his imagination run wild in AA and across the SJ discog.

It's such a shame that he was as unlucky as he was to suffer from the level of depression that he did, and I totally understand his ultimate choice - if you have no decent quality of life because of something like that, it makes total sense that you'd leave on your own terms.

Same logic applies to folks like Robin Williams or Avicii.

I'm happy he's at peace, and that he was alive at all to create the super meaningful work he did.

How about you guys though, what was it about David as a person and his work that endears you to him so much?

Does anyone else absolutely adore Lionel Herkabe?

He's such a lovable wanker: that he has such a childish jealousy of and adversarial relationship with Malcolm was always a highlight of the show for me, lmao.

Big up to the dude who played him (Chris something), he's super talented and underrated and I was so happy to see him in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel a wee while ago.

I read fairly recently that the lady who played Caroline straight up refused to come back after season 3 (I think?) because she wasn't feeling the proposal that Caroline would be re-written as being super cynical after her pregnancy.

As sad as it was to lose her, I feel like it was a blessing in disguise because we got Herkabe and his unseen mother!

His opening tongue-lashing to Dabney is still some of the (hilariously) coldest line delivery and dialogue ever put to screen:

"...Lemme guess: emotionally NEEDY? Closet bedwetter? You get NOOOO attention at home, so you'll be seeking it from me? Look ELSEWHERE, son".

So yeah, do you love or hate Herkabe? Why? Why not? Do you wish he was more of a presence in the OG series, or not?

My recent poem about dispelling ignorant views on suicide

It’s time to be right on suicide, and dispel views unkind

It’s only ‘selfish’ if you commit an act of

Rabid anger, like Adam Lanza or

Sex misdeeds, like Jeff Epstein and to

Evade justice, you take the grave plunge and with ropes or belts, sit and

Hope to quell this to sew helplessness

In any case, from your bestie’s name to the very famed, I know that without a reason,

People have found convenience in

Pontificating, often brazenly, that the true cause was a

‘‘Cabal of demons!’’

Though I know you’re shaking to, it’s important to

Face the proof and realise that it won’t ever matter how

‘Handsome’ someone is, when anguish pummels him

Years fly, but riches aplenty

Won’t fill in pits of depression,

Make tears dry or someone feel that they’ll be fine
