Firs Hackathon

Hey! I will be attending my first ever hackathon in college. Unfortunately, I got no technical skills besides C which I believe it would not be useful for hackathons.

Which type of technical skill should I learn? I have completed a Git & Github tutorials bcs I heard that people use it really often.

I am really overwhelmed right now about what to learn, like do I need to learn the full course of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript? Databases like MySQL? AI Agent?

Do you have to Install Linux?

Hello! I am thinking to start my TOP journey soon and I heard from my friends that it requires Linux to run. I'd like to verify that in this subreddit.

I personally use Windows 11 without any experience on Linux. My friend used the virtualbox Xubuntu one and I found out that it's hella laggy on his pc. Although I saw him set a total of 4 GB of RAM, 8 CPU Cores, and enabled the 3D thing if I'm not wrong. I am afraid the OS will overwhelms me and pushes me away from learning full-stack.

Can I do TOP on Windows instead?

When Should I Start Internships?

Halo! gua camaba di suatu univ yang ambil major CS. Mau nanya aja, kira" di semester berapa mulai harus fokus cari intership? Atau ada step-stepnya dulu kah? seperi try to apply for bangkit academy maupun apple dev academy? Atau mungkin fokus ke lomba, leetcode, dkk? Another thing gua juga bingung when to start making small projects for my porto.

Boleh juga kalau ada gambaran goals atau semacam roadmap yang bisa dijadiin inspirasi buat per semester nya, yang juga berisi do's and don'ts di dunia perkuliahan.

Thanks in advance udah mau bantu sharing ke beginner macam gua hehe.

How to build a News Summarizer AI Agent?

Hello! I am an incoming freshman majoring CS degree this fall, and I'm super interested in anything related to AI agents, chatbots, or LLM. Since I have basically zero background in AI, however I have already learned syntax, conditionals, and loops in C, I want to build an AI agent that does little set of tasks: automatically fetches news from the web for the day, and sends the summary to my Telegram/Whatsapp every morning/evening.

Since I’m starting from scratch, I’m not entirely sure how to structure this pipeline or what tools are best for beginners. Do you all think it would be easy to adapt with Python? since I already got the basic knowledges in C.

Dive Into Leetcode

I'm a soon-to-be CS student, so I haven't taken any actual university lectures or Data Structures & Algorithms (DSA) courses yet. However, I have quite basic programming concepts such as loops, conditionals, functions, or basic syntax.

Can I dive straight into LeetCode Easy problems and learn DSA concepts as I go? Or is that approach frustrating and inefficient without building a solid foundation first?

Should I Learn Python on Year One?

Hey everyone, I’m an incoming CS freshman who wants to dive into AI/ML. My university’s curriculum starts with C in the first year.

I’m in a bit of a dilemma on how to use my prep time before classes start:

  1. Should I get a head start on C so I don't struggle in my first-year classes?

  2. Should I start learning Python now since it’s the standard for AI/ML?

  3. Or is it feasible (and not overwhelming) to learn both at the same time?

Would love to hear from anyone who has taken a similar path. Thanks!

Any Bootcamps Recommendations?

Does anyone have several options of valuable bootcamps related to Computer Science (focusing on AI/ML)? I'm a soon to be CS student, and currently starting to code from the scratch by watching tutorials from free resources (YouTube, w3schools, and freecodecamp).

Well I have seen and heard programs from Nvidia, IBM, Google, Apple Academy, as well as courses on Coursera, Udemy and Harvard's CS50.

I have a few questions for anyone in the field or currently studying CS:

  1. Are Big Tech certificates (Google/IBM/NVIDIA) actually worth the time/money on a resume, or are they mostly marketing?

  2. Would you recommend paid bootcamps, or sticking to free/cheap courses like CS50 and Coursera before uni starts?

Any Warzone Gamemode Recommendation?

I just started playing Warzone a while ago, and hopped on instantly to casual. However, it seems that casual is a mix between players and bots. Then I tried joining a battle royale quads, and holy it takes 10 mins to load into the game.

Is Warzone genuinely dead? or am I not that good at finding popular gamemode now

What's a Git?

Hello! Surely, I have heard so many people saying "Git" or "Github" or repository. They be saying that it's highly important to learn Git as early as possible. When I searched it up on Google, it's just I seem I cannot understand any of those terminologies.

Could anyone tell me what a git actually is?

Is Claude Code Worth It for Zero-Experienced User?

Hello! I am a freshman in Computer Science with no prior experience in programming yet and average math skills. I've been looking at several guides to kickstart my journey in CS, and they seemed to suggest Claude Code.

My questions are:

  1. Can Claude Code effectively act as a personalized tutor to teach me basic to advanced concepts (rather than just giving me code to copy-paste)?

  2. If so, which type of subscription makes the most sense for a first-year student?

  3. Overall, is it a good investment for a first-year student in CS? or should I just stick to the general Claude Web?

How to Start Learning AI from Scratch?

Hi everyone!

I am an incoming CS freshman (starting uni soon), and I want to specialize a career prospect in AI/ML. Since I still have time before uni starts, I want to kickstart my learning journey. However, I still could not find a structured learning path yet. Also, the first year will include C as the main language. Any roadmaps, specific AI tools, or resources would be really appreciated. Thanks!

P.S: I am a bit dilemma whether I should learn C or AI first btw.
