I don’t get nervous making parts, but this one gave me a knot in my stomach

A friend of a friend is getting married and asked if we could engrave a rifle for him. I made a custom parallel up to hold it by the angled magwell and on the bottom, then machined some plastic to hold it on top because it had fine serrations I didnt want to clamp onto. Turned out pretty cool.

I wish my dad was cool and had a CNC machine in his garage when I was growing up!

My kids birthday is coming up, I bought him a Rossi trifecta. My boss was selling it for $250, it comes with 22lr, 410, and 243 barrels for it. I think the stock was going to be a little to long for him, so I made an adapter up on my haas mini mill, went from the Rossi stock mounting point to a ar-15 buffer tube.

Rush job, out the door ✌🏼

Using my haas tl1 and haas mini mill, programmed on fusion 360. My boss said he had a rush job at the shop but didn’t have time to do it, I offered to do it at home over the weekend and banged them out in a couple of hours. After material and his cut I should walk away with about $1050. Also new tool day! On to the next project

Made a new Hydraulic cap for my dad

My dad asked if my home shop was busy, I said not at the moment knowing he needed a part made, so I asked what he needed and he needed a new hydraulic cap for his skid steer, couldn’t find a over the counter replacement, so I whipped one up in 45ish minutes. Then I had to send him an invoice for funsies 😂 after he got the invoice he called me and told me to keep the part lmfaoo

Facing 316 plates

I’ve got 75 plates to face off from 5/16” down to 1/4” taking about .03” off per side, they are 16” diameter and have a through hole of 8”, using a haas tl2. What type of inserts do you guys recommend? Currently using wnmg 432 tf-806 and I get about 3 faces per edge, and the finish is cutting around 24 Ra, id like to be 16 or under.

Refusal to learn

I work at a job shop, I’ve been here 16 years, I’m the lead machinist, I returned from a 9 day vacation to a shit show. We have a bunch of small bosses like this to make, this one order was for 250 pcs. The owner was planning on having a guy saw cut them, face them to length in a Haas tl2, then throw them in the vf2 to be drilled. We have a sl20 with a bar feeder, nobody wants to learn how to run it, I banged these out in about 8 hours, unmanned. He refuses to learn how to use it or program it, this would have taken him and the button pusher 2 days to run these parts. Stepping over dollars to pick up dimes baybeeee!
