Lack of genuine introverted characters in fiction!!
Can we talk about how badly fiction handles introverted FMCs? Because I’m tired of it. I think I have never read a good story with a genuine introverted character especially fmcs...most of the time the authors confuse introversion with shyness & being"sanskari"!!!!! 😮💨
The “introverted” main character is almost always just a lonely girl waiting to be unlocked by the right person… like introversion is some kind of damage that needs fixing. Or she’s written as an extremely “sanskari,” naive girl who can’t even take a stand for herself.
And the shyness thing? Shyness, loneliness, and introversion are NOT the same thing.
Shyness is social anxiety.
Loneliness is a state of lack.
Introversion is just how you’re wired.
You can be introverted and still be warm, socially fluent, emotionally expressive, and completely fulfilled in your own company.
The moment the love interest shows up and she magically “comes out of her shell,” that’s not character development ..that’s the author not understanding introversion.
An actually introverted character would still prefer a quiet evening alone even when she has people who love her. She’d need to decompress after a party she genuinely enjoyed. She wouldn’t sit in solitude feeling sorry for herself ... she’d just exist comfortably in it.
And introverted people DO have friends!!!!!😭
They party with their close-knit circle, laugh loudly, yap for hours, and then disappear for three business days to recharge....
Anyway if you have any good recommendations then please suggest!!!
