Idk about yall but my ADHD has me becoming a hoe of all hobbies. I have so many supplies and materials but sometimes my interest just… disappears. Or when life gets overwhelming, I lose all capacity to innovate or create.
What do yall do with your plethora of supplies without being wasteful?
I look at what I’ve amassed and I just get overwhelmed.

We’re temporarily in Alabama for work (company-paid, thank God), but we’ve bounced around a lot—PA, Texas, Singapore, NC, etc.
I only mention that because both times this exact issue has happened, I’ve gotten the classic shrug-and-hand-wave of “that’s just the South.”
And I need to be very clear: no, it is not.
I’ve lived in multiple places (some hotter and more humid)… and dryers are not supposed to leak like aquariums.
Anyway.
We rented a nice new-build apartment, and when summer hit, we started finding water pooling in the dryer drum. The lint filter would come out soaked… eventually the dryer started leaking from the bottom, and mold started showing up on the baseboards behind the dryer.
Important context: I have a mold allergy.
Also important: last year in another state, THE EXACT SAME THING happened. It resulted in $10K in medical and remediation costs, me thinking I had lady-part cancer, and PTSD from being gaslit by the management company into the depths of Satan’s cubby hole.
Great time. 10/10.

With a little bit more experience in our pocket, this time, we were able to handle it a bit better. YAY.
So obvious… 100°F outside and our apartment being cooler than the surface of the sun will result in condensation. I get that.
We started leaving the dryer door open and created a <55% humidity environment in the laundry room via multiple dehumidifiers, damprids, and fans… all while maintenance gathered their thinking caps together and came up with no solution.
Until they hired another guy.
He extended the vent pipe and added a high loop to “catch” water. It actually helped… sort of.
Instead of going into the dryer, the water started collecting in the loop…dumping about 40 oz of water from the vent every week. Tbh not the worst resolution. At least it was contained this time and we could empty it as needed.
Then a month ago, they added a spring-loaded exterior vent cover. And now we’re dumping about 10 oz every three days. Baby steps I guess.
Before you ask — Did you tell the apartment?
LET ME TELL YOU. Getting the building super to get out here was a trip. He at first refused to come out because apparently “mold doesnt grow on metal.”
But after much pestering, he finally came out and said:
> “If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to move to Alberta, Canada.”
> “Well, *I’m* telling you it’s fine, so that’s what you’re going to go by.”
AKA you’re not getting this fixed.
I noticed a small tear in the vent pipe from all the times we’ve had to drain it, and thought:
What if I could install something to belay the water out on a routine basis? Like an auto plant waterer, except the water source is the high loop?
BING BANG BOOM. LOOK AT ME IM THE BUILDING SUPER NOW.
Yes, it works.
Yes, we do remove it before running the dryer because I enjoy living and would prefer not to invent a new category of household disaster.
Replacing the electrical tape seal with an easy-to-remove silicone barrier…. Needs more mcgyvering but I’ll experiment some and see how it turns out.
Next step is replacing my current electrical-tape engineering with an actual silicone seal.
TL;DR: My dryer vent is basically an Alabama swamp, the building super told me to eat my shorts so I installed a plant waterer to temporarily resolve the problem. At this point, send me some gators to put in my dryer, I bet they’d love it.
I discovered a trend that when I get hyperfixated on something interesting to purchase, I buy the same item in multiple variations… different color ways, different flavors, etc for “sampling” reasons. Do I need them? NO. But impulsively? YES.
It’s oftentimes a waste of money and a huge accumulation of clutter, which I HATE. Then when I get the impulsive need to declutter and just donate everything, those excess items get juked as well.
Could’ve just saved $ if I didn’t hyperfixate and just bought the single thing….
Anyone use apps or have a method to help control their impulsive spending? What are your recommendations?
I recently watched a Drew Lynch comedy bit on his wife who has ADHD. In one of his jokes, he described his wife something along the lines as “if you once knew a weird kid growing up… no, not that one. The other one.”
Anyone else grew up as the weird kid? I’m ADHD-C and MAN, in 5th grade I was weird to the point it sometimes haunts my dreams!
Not lamenting at all, just wanted to see if there are any fellow weirdos out there.
Here are some GREAT moments in time so we can all laugh/cringe together:
5th grade — Convinced my peers at church that I went by a different name. They all believed me and started calling me that until an adult asked me my real name…
6th grade — “hide under the table the teacher was using to lecture and meow at the other kids”
Also 6th grade — felt shy so I laid under the fold out table at the front of the classroom and took a nap
Okay. I am a self proclaimed hoe of all hobbies (30F). Before I was diagnosed, I would pick new hobbies up and drop them almost immediately because I would get discouraged.
Fast forward — I got diagnosed a year ago and after some time of trying different stimulants, was put on Vyvanse this past December. I’ve been wanting to hem a dress for a summer trip and decided to revisit sewing. I bought a starter machine and HOLY CRAP. I was able to focus and learn…. AND I HEMMED MY DRESS! It’s not perfect but it’s my first one and I’m super proud of myself. I remember looking at my decked out sewing gitup 3 years ago and getting so frustrated I packed everything up and sold it on FB marketplace.
Thank heavens for a diagnosis. And thank heavens for medication.

I know it exists because I’ve smelled it not once but a handful of times on people. And before I can identify what in gods sweet holy name that scent is via a That’s So Raven vision… they’re in another section of Target… and I’m not about to stalk a middle aged lady and ask her what she’s wearing that smells like my childhood LOL.
