Transitioning away from IAR

Since the Qt buyout of IAR, my company has had a not so great experience with them, to the point of we’re wanting to explore our options with other vendors.

Has anyone had to break up with IAR, and what tool set did you go with? I know VS code and Eclipse are fine for IDEs, but as far as build tooling what’s the best option? Arm bought and integrated Keil, I’ve had great luck with Keil before. GCC is a free option but I don’t know how well their stuff handles optimization. We are an Arm shop, mostly ST but a few older products that use NXP. Any suggestions? The team is small so we have no leverage with Qt/IAR, but we hired really smart people so changing tools, while not optimal, is def doable.

Help me Obi-wan Embeddey, you’re my only hope!

Thanks!

Inferno is wonderful!

Just got the new album and spent all day at work listening to it. Overall I love it! The mix is great, there’s a lot of use of dynamics in the sound, and it has a really hypnotic/swirly vibe that I love.

The vocal samples in Age of Capricorn, is that a Terence McKenna sample?

Word Becomes Flesh hits at about 26 minutes, and the song has the whole vibe of that racy kinda nauseous come up as a mushroom trip comes on.

All Reason Departs is my favorite track on the album, it has a rhythmic bounce to it that I can’t not tap my toe to.

The end of Arena Americanada, where they set that song apart from the dissonant The Process with a really long pause is a great pacing decision too.

The whole album is beautifully built and intentional. You can hear the amount of work and love that went into these tracks and I can’t get enough of this one!

Leona’s fluffernutter ice cream sandwich is the bomb!

My wife got me a Leona’s fluffernutter ice cream sandwich and it was delicious! It tasted like a nutter butter cookie until I got to a pocket of marshmallow fluff. If you see one, I’d suggest you try it. Highly recommend!

Weird question - Giant Eagle fries

My wife and I made giant eagle brand fries tonight. When we took them out of the oven, they had an unpleasant odor to them. Has anyone else noticed this? What do you place the odor as? We tossed ours in the trash…the smell was gross!

New album is great!

I love the new record! Love it! The song writing and composition and arrangements are great! The guitar sounds are retro and cool, the vocals sound incredible (esp the mix), the drums and bass really have bounce, and the keys are interesting and add fullness while still being supportive. I also really like the mix of this record too - lots of subtle effects that keep everything interesting and exciting.

The only thing I would change is to make one or two of the quiet pauses between songs longer. I think adding another 2-3s of silence would pace the album better, I love a pregnant pause to catch my breath between bangers. Otherwise this is a great creative direction for the band and a really strong showing. Sounds great!

I have kind of an oddball question - let’s say I record 2 or 3 clips of me grooving to drums on bass in 4/4. Is there a way I can switch between clips with follow actions such that the play head starts in the middle of the clip and not at the 1? As I type this out it actually seems like I’ll have to build a M4L device for this, but I wanted to see if anyone had a suggestion before I start down the M4L path. I do live looping and would like to have a few different sets of backing loops for some sections so I can create a more “live” feeling to parts that have some backing track stuff.
