If anyone’s read the book series the selection, I’ve wondered this

So my parents are lawyers which would put me at caste three. I recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree where my major was journalism. Would journalists still be caste three because it’s in the realm of academia?

Also I find it interesting how caste ≠ wealth. One character Elise is a caste four which you would think is middle class (there’s eight castes) but Elise is a rich girl, potentially richer than some threes. Meanwhile America’s family (caste five) are lower middle class at best.

I want to be a music journalist and long story short I was having this conversation online with a music critic and she told me she studied a communications degree. And I was all “me too, and my major was journalism” and she told me it wasn’t the same thing. Does communications differ in the US because in my country NZ, journalism is under the communications umbrella? Also she implied that I’m not qualified to be a music critic (I also want to be a music critic) because I studied journalism and not communications (even though here in NZ journalism is under the communications umbrella) and according to her music journalism and music criticism isn’t fully the same thing? I did study radio as a minor where I did have to write band & song reviews in essay format for some of my assignments, but I’m wondering how journalism and criticism differs? Especially because I met with the editor in chief of a music journalism website last week (I have an internship there now) and he told me it’s highly likely that I’m going to have to do not just interviews but also reviews (albums, songs, bands, gigs) as part of a music journalism career
