Why So Many Old Cars?

I just got back from visiting family in San Francisco. I’ve spent a lot of time there because of family, but one thing I noticed on this trip: There are a lot of old cars, and people from all ages driving them.

In Orange County, you just don’t see old cars like you used to in the early 2010s, and a lot of people have to get dirty smogs to keep them on the streets.

So for San Francisco, it got me thinking: Is this an environmental thing, where people don’t want the waste of a new car impacting the environment, so they like driving what we already have? Is it a millennial hipster holdover where people like retro stuff? (This doesn’t seem to be the case for everyone, as I saw old men driving old cars.)

I understand keeping your old car is better for the environment, so this isn’t a complaint, but because of smog regulations I’m genuinely wondering how these cars are passing smog. Cheers

Auf der Suche nach diesen Jungs. Wo sind die österreichischen OFB-Fanseiten?

I am an American that drove from Southern California to San Jose to support Austria in the World Cup. I have no connection to Austria, I just like the team. The Austrian fans were so cool. I met these guys and they were a ton of fun. They wanted to ride in our car but we didn’t have room. We took a bunch of photos together but I didn’t even think to exchange social media.

Does anyone know where the OFB fan groups are? I want to see if anyone recognizes these guys. I thought it would be cool to meet up with them again if I go to another match; and I am already planning a trip to Alpbach. Prost!

Prost!

Help Me Design My New Room

Bought a “new” house and I’m having trouble figuring out if I can set up my equipment in this room without it looking cluttered with wires and such. I have an REL 212/SX that I could possibly place in the left corner, but then what speakers could I set up without it looking cluttered? Any reccomended storage to hide things? Maybe a Wiim amp to keep things minimal.

I know people don’t like screens over the fireplace, but because of the windows all around this house, it seemed like the best spot. TV is a 65 inch OLED.

Any ideas appreciated.

Any Morongo Natives or Locals Remember a Big Castle Building?

Around 2001 we got lost and ended up somewhere against the foothills or mountains near Morongo Casino. We were driving up this road and I remember coming up on this big building that looked like a European castle. Almost fantasy like, similar to Excalibur in Vegas, but my mind might be overplaying what it looked like. It had some castle-like features. It felt liminal. It was a big building.

There were boys or teens in uniforms coming out of the building and we were looking at it in awe wondering what was going on. Like a cult. This was before GPS so we couldn’t look up what it was.

In my mind I remember it being against the foothills Northwest of Morongo Casino. But it also could have been on the other side of the freeway, and it also could have been a bit further away.

ChatGPT is telling me it was most likely a Native school or mission that was torn down or remodeled during the Morongo Casino facelift of the area. I’m also thinking it could have been some Mormon temple. Using satellite imaging and street view I could not find something similar in that area. If anyone knows what I am talking about I would love to figure out what that was, and would love to see photos. Cheers
