Ahhhhhh I have my first class tomorrow!!! I’m so so so excited. But given that I’ve only had ALL my gear on at home one time, how early do you think I should be? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I’m already nervous about being the new kid!

I’ve got skates, a stick and gloves but need to get the rest of my gear. I’m not sure what to prioritize when spending the rest of my limited funds. I’ll buy a new, good fitting helmet. But beyond that, what is most important? I’m a 5’1” pear shaped lady so I’m not sure how base layers/pads should fit. Any recs for the following?
- Base layers? How much should I worry about cut protection?
- Shin Guards? I have THICK calves.
- pants? I’m losing weight slowly and not sure if I should get something super snug or not.
- shoulder pads? I’m def smaller up top and wondering if I can get away with a larger youth size?

Hey, hi! If you’re in a chat with someone on an app and you reply without a follow-up or anything to keep the conversation going, does that mean anything? It keeps happening where I’ll ask a question, they’ll answer, but that’s it. I don’t know if it’s intentional or just not great communication skills. If it’s a way to politely end the convo, that’s fine. Just wondering if I’m reading into it too much or if this is a hint I should be taking.

I’m a 43F who is terrible at trivia but loves meeting new people. Anyone have a group going tomorrow that can use another (largely useless but pleasant) teammate?

Preferably west side. I’m not talking drop-in hockey. I’m talking able to skate (sort of) with zero hockey experience. Like teaching a 3 year old level of hockey.

This is just me rambling about a pipe dream I have. But wouldn’t it be cool if there was some sort of wristband system or something that’s like the OPPOSITE of a wedding ring? Something to signal to other people that you’re open to meeting people, being approached, having random convos with strangers, etc? It could even be color coded - like a blue wristband means you’re open to making friends, green means open to a romantic connection, etc. I’m often sitting in coffee shops or bookstores and would love LOVE love to be approached to chat but most people keep to themselves. I KNOW that I do this. I realize I could just be the one to do the approaching but I assume I’d be a bother. Want to be left alone? Don’t wear your wristband! Easy!

Please chime in and tell me why this is actually a terrible idea so I can move on from it. 😅 I’m sure there is something I’m not thinking of.

ETA: Oh god. Maybe it’s not the lack of a wristband. Maybe I’m just not approachable. 😅 Ugh, can you imagine if I had this system and still got ignored? Okay, I’ve talked myself out of it. Thanks for taking this ride w me. 😂

Hi!! Looking for ANY recommendations for meet-ups/gatherings/new friend groups. I’d love to be more social and I (42F) have NO problem going places alone but when I do, I usually end up staying alone because everyone else is with a friend/group. I don’t know how to signal that I want to be approached without intruding. I’m sure there are other people out there in the same boat and I’m not sure of a safe way to find those people? Are there any events where people are showing up alone with the intent of actually meeting other people and if not, how can I create something like this?

ETA: here’s what prompted this: There was an event tonight I really wanted to go to but my friends were either unavailable or uninterested. Ideally, I would be able to put it out there *somewhere* that I’m attending alone and would love to meet up with other people either attending alone OR willing to have a stranger join their group. But I don’t know how to do this without being SO weird (and also staying safe).
