Learning a bunch of songs: play one on repeat or loop through a set?

When you guys are facing a mountain of new material to learn/memorize (new band, etc), do you usually just play one song over and over until you have it down, or do you loop through a chunk of them, or all of them?

What's a good IEM upgrade from the CCA C12?

Sub-question: How do you approach an audiologist about getting custom ear molds?

I have the CCA C12, and they're my first IEMs. They were recommended on Reddit a few places and for the money they're really not bad. My 2 main complaints are lack of low end (I play bass) and mainly that it's really tough to maintain a good seal. I don't think I'm ready to spend 4 figures on IEMs yet, but I could maybe go up to a couple hundred bucks or so (USD). Any suggestions?

Also, yeah. Ear molds. If I go through my medical network portal and make an appointment, do I just put "custom IEM molds" in the appointment comments? Do they want to give you a full workup first, or can I just get an appt and work with a lab tech? Does insurance typically cover something like this?

Sub-sub question: I've seen drummers with a sort of rigid band that keeps their IEMs in place, but I haven't had much luck searching for these. What is this called? Can you buy them separately, or do you have to buy drummer-specific IEMs?

Stupid question, be gentile. Do strings react poorly to Sharpie ink?

I feel like this post is destined for r/BassCirclejerk but oh well. Got some Black Beauties on my new Schecter. As a picker, this is probably inevitable, but these strings are only like 2 weeks old and they still play fine. If I used a Sharpie on the strings, will they corrode or otherwise break down?

EDIT: Gentle, not gentile. Now I'm definitely getting roasted.

Southern Spirits is all churchy now?

The blackboards all had similar messages on them today. I haven’t been there in a while, so maybe it’s been like this for a while. Combined with the fact that their bourbon selection was not really anything I couldn’t find at my local ABC, I’m not in a hurry to return.

ETA: Meant to say, this note was in the bottom of my shopping bag.

Is it a common mod to swap a screw-in battery compartment lid for a click-in?

Just got a Schecter Model T Session. GREAT instrument. The only thing I don't really like is that I got used to having a battery compartment I could open without any tools. Made me real casual about keeping my bass plugged in when I could just swap out the battery in under a minute (USB-rechargeable 9V FTW). Is this a mod that a luthier could do without too much heavy surgery, or should I just get used to it being a bit more of a PITA to swap out the battery?

Tips to EQ out new string twangyness?

Just got a new bass delivered today. Trying to dial in the sound to where I like the tone. I think part of the problem is the brand new strings. They sound very springy and I hate it.

I’m relatively new to bass and I kinda feel like I could use a veteran to come over and just adjust all my knobs because sometimes I feel a bit lost trying to dial in the sound. Any tips?

Do block inlays help for quick reference?

I've been playing for about 5 months now, and while it's not my biggest problem, I sometimes get the 7th and 9th frets mixed up when just taking a quick look down, and sometimes I wish I had a little more visual distinction between them.

I'm considering a second bass, and a couple that I'm looking at have block inlays instead of dots, where the blocks are at least a bit different between 7 and 9. Haven't had a chance to play one yet. Does anyone else have this issue, and did this style of inlays help with it?

Addicted to 2nd switch position sound on Sterling Stingray HH. Recommend another bass with this tone?

I bought a Sterling Ray34 HH knowing I’d probably be using the bridge pickup all the time as I play mostly punk/pop-punk. But I’ve found that the next switch position up, which is the bottom row of the bridge pickup and the top row of the neck pickup is “my tone”. It’s got a lot of those harmonic sparkles that make it stand out in the mix without pumping up the volume.

I’m considering a second bass, and I’m just trying to look for something with a similar tone, but maybe not a Stingray. The tone I like is not too different from a Mike Dirnt kinda thing, so I’m guessing a Grabber with both pickups on is an option, though I’m not a fan of the look. Any other suggestions?

I've been playing one instrument or another for about 35 years. But recently I picked up a bass guitar and started playing in a cover band. Took us a while to find a drummer (we still haven't but we've got two lined up and the first sit-in is this weekend), so in the meantime we've been playing along with my Songsterr app and I've been pretty dependent on the tab because it's a lot more detail than chords for a guitar or melody lines I could riff around and not have 100% accurate on wind instruments.

I'm worried that when we try to play without the backing tracks, I'm going to find myself no longer able to keep up with the more seasoned musicians in the band. Memorizing the tab is obviously one task and I'm working on it, but it's going pretty slow. But I'm also worried that if a song veers even slightly away from the album version, I'm going to get lost.

I'd love any tricks or tips you guys have. I'm super focused on not being the weakest link in the band, so I want to try to minimize these problems before they start.
