I built a paradise/deathtrap in my ecosystem test.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrFjbwHrOMc

Let me explain.

I built 2 areas that could potentially trap predators and starve them to death, or be a little paradise for herbivores to thrive. I have one relatively large area surrounded by tall cliffs, and the only way in or out is this narrow path just big enough for a Dryosaurus or smaller animal to pass through. Anything bigger won’t fit.

I tested this path by fencing a Dryosaurus and Dilphosaurus together. It worked as expected. The Dilphosaurus spent minutes wandering around but couldn’t attack the Dryosaurus on the other side.

So if a small animal wanders into this area, they could potentially live here away from big carnivores. If a herd of baby Argentinosaurus passes through, they could grow up in here and become too big to leave, but they would also have tons of land to themselves. However, small animals also mean small carnivores. A Velociraptor or Coelophysis could also pass through. Or even a baby Tarbosaurus. So a small or baby carnivore could also come here. If there is prey, they can survive. If there’s no prey, is the computer smart enough to leave? What if a baby Tarbosaurus wanders in, finds food, then grows too big to fit through the exit? Then they’ll be stuck in here with nothing to eat if no herbivores enter.

I also built a small cave with the same concept. This is a much smaller area and is unlikely to support any animal population. It’s more like a small shelter. Both areas have nests of every size to encourage breeding.

My dinosaurs chose violence.

But also don't give your dinosaurs weapons. They can't use them responsibly.

I created a test ecosystem and kept track of the results.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOss5Qa_yRo

For anyone wondering if a self-sustaining ecosystem can work in the game, I did some testing for you. The test is pretty specific since it's the Morrison Formation. It's the easiest right now since it has the most amount of animals and they all have the exact same biome, water, and plant requirements. I stuck a bunch of animals on the map and see if they can survive without me doing anything. I let the simulation run for about 5 or 6 hours and tracked the results to the best of my ability. I wasn't sure what to expect.

Maybe feathers evolved for combat.

Maybe for protection during fights like lion manes. But I like to think they evolved feathers so they can catch lightning.

This subreddit got featured in a Skeleton Crew Video: No, Carnotaurus wasn't actually a fast runner

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5gS48yuFEU

The funny thing about this video is that I didn't realize how much Carno being fast made it into pop culture. I definitely remember the caudofemoralis paper back in the day. It's fascinating to see how some studies get popularized while others aren't. I'm today years old in learning that the fast Carno paper is widely known.

This is also a good discussion on how to look at animals and judge which are fast runners.

The Star Wars text crew got me laughing.

I regret not using this meme in my video, but I will share it here since it's the 30th anniversary of Genealogy of the Holy Wars.

The context is that today is the unveiling of a dinosaur called Nagatitan chaiyaphumensis. I made this meme to stick in my report, but I figure people wouldn't recognize this version of Naga. I forgot today was the 30th anniversary of Genealogy of the Holy Wars. It would have been so perfect if I had remembered. Sure, not everyone will get it, but it makes me feel better.

Devs, please add kids to the game.

I know kids aren't in the game because the potential breakout mechanic will endanger children and cause a higher ESRB rating, but maybe you can find a way around this problem? I'm not saying you need to be edgy and let kids get killed. Maybe have them disappear automatically during a breakout, or maybe a specialized area for children or something creative.

The thought of a prehistoric animal zoo without kids is weird. If a real prehistoric animal park existed, I'm willing to bet every person on this sub would go wild as a kid and beg our parents to take us.

If not now, maybe consider adding kids as a DLC or patched in later in the game.

Can you parry Sichiman Warrior's fireballs and beams?

I know you can parry Headless and you won't get terror, but I forgot whether you can parry the Sichiman Warrior's fireballs and beams. I could have sworn the beam can be parried. I was testing and couldn't do it. I was taking chip damage. Maybe my timing is off.

I'm doing the tests with demon bell on. I also have Kuro's charm, so that's not the reason I'm taking chip damage.

Edit - I also didn't have Divine Confetti on my sword. Maybe that's why I'm taking chip damage.
