“It’s Armistice Day” not “It’s a Mistake” by Men at Work

For 43 years, I thought the lyrics were, “it’s Armistice Day” not “it’s a mistake.” Never mind it’s the literal title of the song. I thought they were being sarcastic. That the cold war was a lip service treaty or an "Armistice Day" but really we were at war. Which fits with the song.

50/50 lawn no lawn

I live in a HOA middle-class neighborhood (the type where all the houses look similar) and I’m happy to report that more and more people are opting away from traditional monoculture grass lawns and are embracing a biodiverse option. Technically, I guess they’re still lawns but it’s obvious they aren’t spraying them with herbicides. I would say it’s 50/50. Perhaps people are realizing the benefits? but maybe it’s the economy and people not wanting to spend money on a lawn service. 🤷🏻‍♀️ When we first moved here it wasn’t this way at all. It was a competition to see who had the greenest, perfect grass lawn. Now the tide seems to be turning.

What are you seeing in your neighborhood? I’m in the Midwest, USA btw.

Bonwit Teller 1930’s

I recently learned that my grandmother, who worked at Bonwit Teller Philadelphia as a seamstress (She mainly sewed custom wedding gowns), took Bonwit Teller labels so she could sew them into her own homemade dresses and coats. She worked there from 1933 to 1943.

I’m both a little horrified yet amused that her counterfeit pieces might be out there. She did amazing work so the craftsmanship would be fine but I have no idea if she used Bonwit approved patterns. I’m guessing she was recreating for herself what she saw was being created at her work.

Dress Smells

I just got my dress and it smells like smoke. It makes me sick to my stomach to have it in the house. I had to put it in the garage. I filed a return and the seller messaged back that she’s not a smoker and it’s a smoke free home. I feel bad for her but I can’t get over the fact the dress smells. What happens next? Does Poshmark decide?

55+ Guest July Wedding (also rehearsal dinner ideas)

It’s my niece’s wedding in a capital city in the Midwest in July. She is a buyer for a woman’s boutique. She is holding up a dress in the 1st photo that she recommended to her customers as something she would be honored to see a guest wear at her wedding. I found a couple dresses at Dillards I think I could wear. Is that blue dress appropriate? I think it crosses the line from formal to black-tie. How about the pink & ochre? That reads 55+ to me and a mature version of dress my niece is holding up. Suggestions? Ideas for how to style?

I also need recommendations for what to wear to the rehearsal dinner which will be hosted a pizzeria/diner pub situation.

I am a size 6 or 8. Bust 34B, 29” waist, 40” Hip

Thanks!
