I love the difference between friend and close friend texts.

So today is a close friend’s 18th birthday, and he’s been my friend since 5th grade. It’s been such a fun and goofy ride with him.

Anyway, he skipped a grade, so he graduated at 17 same with another friend because they’re both nerds like that while I graduated normally at 18 last year.

Today was his birthday, and I told my other friend, who isn’t as close with him but still knows him. They sent me the birthday text they wrote for him, and I couldn’t stop laughing because I LOVE the difference between a “not-so-close friend” birthday text and my birthday text.

First is the not-so-close friend’s text, second is mine.

What’s a quote from a student that became an inside joke with your family, friends, or coworkers?

My mom is a teacher, my favorite quote from her students that we toss around my family occasionally is “Its fineeeeee Mrs. (Blank)” “No it’s not!”. I wanted to hear some from other teachers

What music that makes you feel like you’re driving through a neon lit city at 2am

u/ImAHuksy — 3 days ago

Give me songs that give feelings of homesickness for a home, time, or belonging that never have truly existed.

So I learned about a word called “Hiraeth” which is a word that describes a profound, melancholic longing for a home, place, or time to which you cannot return. It is a deep homesickness mixed with grief for a past era, a lost loved one, or an imaginary home that never truly existed.

It’s not Nostalgia which is usually a longing for a real past, your childhood, a relationship, a city you left, a specific era you actually experienced. It’s memory-centered.

Hiraeth goes further. It’s a Welsh concept for longing for a home, belonging, or time that may be impossible to return to, or may never have fully existed at all. There’s often grief inside it, but also identity and yearning.

Give me songs. Preferably like ambiance type songs but whatever you think.

Drop some song/songs that make you feel like you’re remembering a life you never lived

What was a thing your student had said that became kinda an inside joke between you and your inner circles?

My mom is a teacher and sometimes she comes home with stories so funny they’ve become inside jokes in our family. I can’t share any specifics since she works in special education and privacy laws mean those stories stay within close family and friends.

Do other teachers have funny moments that turned into inside jokes with your family or coworkers?

I am in the mood for drawing again, drop your OCs (Simple/Chibi)

I am a beginner enough artist as is, i just have random spurts of art yearing and I draw for months straight before art hibernation for like a year and a half.

Recently life craziness had settled down and a friend had picked up drawing again and I feel the need to draw again. Be warned, I’m not good at all and even less so with me just coming out of this break

Rules:
- I’m fine with essentially whatever except NSFW
-When you submitting an OC, I’d like it already simple enough so I don’t feel overwhelmed with detail

I’m incredibly rusty, I need some warming up, Chibi/Simple

Finally in the mood to take up drawing again

Now I’m a very beginner artist so don’t expect the Mona Lisa, but I shall put a few examples of my work if you wanna maybe buddy up? I mostly make sketches but if I am patient and in the mood, I can make a okay render.

Only rule- Please no NSFW, other wise I’m fine with creatures, characters, and you could give me human but I suck on anything more then a bust

Draw my OC?

This little fella is the embodiment of childhood innocence and imagination.

I originally sketched them during one of the hardest periods of my life, it was so difficult that I spent time in a day program at a mental health facility while recovering. Creating them was part of how I got through it.

The concept: a red panda who can change colors at will who serves as a friend for kids whose spirits are being crushed by the controlling adults in their lives who want to conform them to society’s standards, and equally, a comfort for grown-ups who just need to reconnect with their inner child when the world feels like too much. They can make vivid imagination seem to come to life right before your eyes, and more than anything, they love to play.

I lost my original terrible sketch of them somewhere along the way, so I’m sharing a drawing my friend made after I described the idea to them.

Give them a shot, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Why is bird watching associated with elderly?

I am just wondering since I’m a young birder, my highschool when I went had a Ornithology class and i absolutely loved it so much I got into bird watching and the science behind birds even after graduating years ago.

Now when I see ads regarding birdwatching, either bird feeders or apps for birdwatching or so on, I see taglines like “perfect for elderly” and I’m mildly offended lol. I’m just curious why is it associated with elderly other then the fact a lot of elderly people watch birds, cause young adults also bird watch as well

What fandom do you think that deserves more recognition and on the flipside one that’s overrated as hek

PS: Overrated doesn’t mean you hate it, I want this to be a friendly discussion, not shots being fired at other fandoms
