I've been tinkering with the design inbetween work and printing prototypes, Files/software will be open sourced and available for download once i'm happy with everything. I am working on full waterproofed enclosures but it's my 3rd day messing around with a 3D printer so give me some time :)

More than happy to be told the software and enclosures exist elsewhere but i've had real trouble finding them

First failed print, ASA sticking to bed.

Hey guys, I've had a failed print which i was expecting just setting up the elegoo v2 carbon, The print was in ASA and i stopped the print early on to address an issue with supports.

I am extremely new to 3D printing and i bought the v2 to prototype housings for thermal cameras. When i'd decided to print a few tests on elegoo software with all setttings for the filament, printer and nozzle correct i had a massive issue with an early failure of an ASA print sticking to the bed. I know ASA requires a higher print/bed temp and this can cause it's own issues.

Would a quick pass with a gluestick help? You can treat me like i'm five and it'd be well deserved, Like anything i do i try and work it out and ask for advice later.

Thermalmaster T2Max

Over the last few days ive been enioying bird watching, animal spotting with the T2Max, It has been absolutely incredible with picking out wildlife while scanning an environment. It is a 256x192 sensor that boasts upscaling to 512x384 with a noticable boost in quality when enabled. It also has a lower NetD (15mk as opposed to the usual <40mk) than a lot of phone based thermal cameras at this price point. (The last photo is an unsharpened image from a 640 9mm camera with a <40mk sensitivity looking across the same lake)

The 15mm lens with adjustable focus helps with image detail and increases the range of the camera (Photos were taken across a lake) but does result in the camera beina shaky at times. Ive found to get a consistently stable image i have to stand very still. That being said it is something I quickly got used to and was able to track and take decent images. Ive included a few of my use over the last few days.

The software includes a Ninja mode (low screen brightness + animal highlight) and two modes to switch between for Hot/Humid and Cold/Dry environments. It is not a radiometric core (no temperature measurement) but does have an option to enable a cross-hair to spot the hottest object.

The T2Max is definitely a handy tool for spotting wildlife and something ill be keeping with me on trips

Vehicle mounted thermal for animal avoidance.

Owlshine 640 Base thermal camera/module with custom software. Theres a few things i'm adding since the drive (Sky detection and an adjusted AGC curve for it, Stricter rules for animal detection etc) but it's already helping detect kangaroos a fair way off.

Bunny v Plover

Rabbit/Hare and a masked lapwing facing off. Plovers are extremely territorial and will try to scare ANYTHING off that comes near their nest.

I've been really impressed with the T2Max so far, With a lower NetD than the other cameras im working on and the software side solutions they've implemented it helps bring out that little bit of extra detail. I'll be posting better photos/video of the camera and it's controls in the coming days but this is what i've quickly captured.

Meteors captured while driving

Maybe I should point this thing up more often, Realised id captured two meteors while taking a short video of the 640 Thermal (One at the start of the vid top right of frame). Thought it might be interesting to someone

Q: Has anyone been able to achieve semi-accurate temp data with a non-radiometric core and a smartphone?

I'm buying a few FPV thermal cameras from international suppliers and i am trying to find the best base unit 640 unit. I don't have a specific application in mind besides wildlife spotting on rural roads but with the applications i'm developing i want everything to be multi-use but most applications i want to be driving based. (Think being able to detect a 'hot' power line/transformer from a car) The next camera/s i buy depending on cost increase will include radiometric data if needed.

Included a video of a 256 working with the prototyped software/mount

Hdainee UM 256 9mm

Decent quality for a cheap aliexpress buy ($250AUD). I have ordered a 640 9mm to compare but it hasn't arrived yet.

I was pretty surprised with how well the image cleans up for a smaller sensor.

Thermal Master P3 Review

After researching several phone based thermal cameras, I decided to buy the Thermal Master P3 as my first Thermal camera as it sat at a lower price point than other cameras with more features. Initially I bought it as I was just interested in thermal cameras but after using the camera for a while I understood how much of a useful tool they could be.

The Thermal Master P3 is neatly packaged with an instruction booklet, USBC cord with USBA Adapter and a carry case with the P3 itself and a USBC Lightning adapter placed inside. The Thermal Master is an All-OS Camera and operates on PC, Android and iOS so having the cables already included to utilize all three is a massive plus.

Now for features, The P3 has one up on most mobile solutions with the addition of the focus ring which allows finer details to be captured up close but also allows a sharper image at further distances increasing the uses for the P3. The P3 Also features an X3IR mode which upscales the resolution from the traditional 256x192 to 512x384 giving you a clarity boost and more detail when needed.

The ThermalMaster software is well thought out for daily use with live preview modes, The addition of the X3IR mode and options to capture point temperature and the hottest/coldest in frame.

While I mainly use my P3 to spot wildlife and as an educational tool with participants it can be used in anything from Household inspections to PCB and Automotive diagnostics.

The P3 is a perfect solution for those that want something to shove in their pocket, desk or truck in professional settings when needed while also competing at a price point where hobbyists or the curious aren’t left out either.

2009 CK Kia Stinger 3.3TT Lambda II V6 Oil Pump Failure

https://preview.redd.it/5eg1w87fzq7h1.png?width=924&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf3299fed15244e28c756df57d7b3c0e4ffc9717

So my vehicle has been serviced by the same Kia service department for the past 4 years. It was my dream car at the time and i've racked up a lot of kilometers on the vehicle but have always kept it maintained.

Last service everything seemed to go smoothly, Cut to a few months later and we have an intermittent oil light, we call the dealership and get told to take a photo or come in when the light is on or if it continues to stay on.

My wife takes the car to a shopping centre a week later and the oil light comes on mid drive and stayed on, she pulled up and checked the dipstick to realise it looked very low. When the car restarted the oil light dissappeared so I told her to drive the car straight to the dealership and ask for it to be looked at.

They find a broken dipstick and mention that couldn't have caused the issue, replace the dipstick but leave the broken one in the bottom of the pan. They say they will get photos of the cylinders etc at service because of the oil light but chalk it up to being unrelated.

Come the next service i'm told there is scoring bad enough that it requires a long motor. I asked if there were any other components that should be replaced and was told the long motor was all that was required.

With all that in mind the question i wanted to ask is as a mechanic what would you typically replace or if you are a Kia mechanic given the information above what would you recommend be replaced?

What features would be handy in an app for the P3?

I noticed there wasnt a lot of customisation in the OEM App and have built my own. Im new to anything thermal and bought a P3 to dip my toes in the water so ive added some filters, different colour palettes and a few other tweaks but id love more ideas.
