$30 keyless entry - Easiest bang for buck project yet

Bought a generic Amazon kit, which came with inline 15amp fuses for the 12v power and lock signal, 2 hours later and I am not sweating breaking off another key in my door / trunk.

Edit: I bought this one - keyless entry link

I used the trunk wiring, someone will yell at me because I didn’t go under the drive side footwell speaker panel, but I lock my car through my trunk already and I have fuses on the module, so this can’t be worse than my current locking procedure.

Module side - E30 wiring harness

Red with 15a fuse - Antenna power wire (red)
White with 15a fuse - lock (green and black)
White and black - unlock (green and purple)
Black - ground (brown)
Yellow - ground (brown)
Yellow and black - ground (brown)

Sport Seat repair and re-dye to cardinal red

My original interior was torn up comfort cloth. I assembled black door cards, tan front sport seats, and stained tan rear seats, and decided to go with one color. My E30 is Delphin Gray, so I figured cardinal red would be a perfect match.

Figured I’d share this here, the result has been fantastic, and it was relatively cheap ($350) for the supplies. You will need an air compressor and paint gun though to spray the dye.

I have sweated on these seats in 106F heat and it didn’t lift the dye after about 48 hours of drying, so I am thrilled with the result.

I used leatherique and provided them with the cardinal red interior color code. If anyone has any specific questions feel free to ask.

Just adopted two kittens out of a stray litter, want to make sure I’m being a good dad

So I just received two kittens from a stray litter, and they were here for about 5 days when I saw a flea crawl across one of their tummies while rolled over.

I tried to do as much research as possible and called a few friends that work at animal hospitals for advice.

I immediately went out, got advantage II for kittens (they’re 10 weeks old), and applied it, and sequestered them to a bathroom with only a towel, their litter box, and dishes to deal with the rest of the place.

Following that I vacuumed every single surface (couches, their tree, my area rug), sprayed the pet safe raid on their tree, spread diatomaceous earth dust around the base boards (and carpet then vacuumed ~8 hours later). Everything washable got a round on the hottest washer and drier setting.

I went around with a powerful automotive inspection light and couldn’t find any other adults or flea dust pre / post vacuum.

24 hours later after the application, I gave them a dawn bath, went through their fur with a flea comb, and only came up one with adult flea that I could see.

Are there any other steps I can take for now to make sure they continue to be happy and flea free, or is it just a waiting game until their next application of topical flea medicine?

Thank you!

Victory over my snapped bolts!

Went to replace my alternator to find out the bracket was not even attached to the block and both the bolts had snapped on the block….

Got them extracted without too much fanfare!

E30 Counter: 2

Rolling shell - ‘87 325is

Mostly solid, two holes in the floorpan but we’ll get her right eventually!

The number of non-running cars have officially outnumbers the running cars.

All original E30 AC blowing cold!

Had to replace my compressor shaft seal but it’s a 30 degree differential from ambient (66 outside).

Sure it’ll be less efficient when it’s hot but this feels like a major win.

Feel free to ask me any questions or PM me.
