Google Photos vs iCloud Photos, which backup service do you trust more?

Google Photos vs iCloud Photos, which backup service do you trust more?

I used to use iCloud, but I eventually cancelled my subscription and now I mostly rely on local backups. If I had to go back to cloud storage though, I’d probably have a hard time choosing between the two.

Which one do you use, and has it ever let you down?

What's one gadget you always recommend to friends without hesitation?

To me, it is a very good power bank. It does not need to be something fancy or the type of powerbank that has more than 30,000 mAH lol, but ever since I started bringing it everywhere, I have been saved countless times, making it a necessity for me. I do not even think about going out without one now.

What one device do you recommend without any second thoughts to all your friends?

If you had to switch away from Windows tomorrow, would you pick Linux or macOS?

Suppose Windows vanished tomorrow and you have to change your platform. What will be your choice: Linux or Mac OS? To me, Mac OS would probably seem an easier solution to move to, but I am aware that many users love Linux and there are many Linux followers even among developers.

What will be your choice?

Would you rather have a better battery or a better camera?

If you had to choose one, would you rather have a better battery or a better camera? Personally, I'd pick the better camera. My screentime isn't that high tbh to the point that I need to charge my phone multiple times throughout the day, so battery life has never really been a huge issue for me... As long as my phone comfortably lasts the day, I'm goods with that and I'd rather have a camera that takes great photos whenever I need it.

What would you choose?

For people who have browsed thru the Dark web, how's your experience?

I’ve always been curious about what it’s actually like… The internet makes it sound like it’s either full of illegal marketplaces or some mysterious place where you’ll instantly get hacked, but I’m guessing the reality is probably less dramatic than that.

For people who’ve actually browsed the Dark Web (legally, of course), what was your experience like? Was it mostly boring, interesting, or completely different from what you expected?

Which cancelled game still hurts to think about?

There have been so many games over the years that looked incredibly promising, only to get cancelled before they ever saw the light of day...Every now and then I'll remember one and think about what could have been.

Which cancelled game still hurts to think about for you, and why do you think it would've been something special?

What's a piece of tech that you bought on impulse but ended up loving?

Mine was the Sony headphones, it was the headphones that went viral last year, tbh I bought it impulsively because it had noise cancelling. I already own an airpods with ANC, so yeah that was really an impulse buy...But so far I've been using the Sony headphones more than my airpods, I just find it very comfy and they don't fell off my ears easily.. 😂

So what's yours, what tech did you buy impulsively?

Repairing vs Replacing

I'm in a bit of a dilemma...An old Lenovo laptop got passed down to my little sister for school, It's an i3 with 8GB of RAM, and recently it started getting random blue screens. We took it to a repair shop and they said it's most likely the motherboard? they said more but that's all I can remember

The problem is, the repair isn't that cheap...Now I'm thinking if it's even worth repairing, or if I should just pay more money to buy her a new laptop instead, this option will take awhile since I don't have enough money yet..and school has already started, so I need to decide soon.

What would you do in this situation?

Thoughts on Gemini Spark?

I saw the news that Google release Gemini Spark.. Has anyone tried it yet? and how does it compare to other ai tools.

They claim it’s not your typical ai chatbot and it can automate workflows, I wonder how people are using it…

What’s the most bizarre tech-related subreddit you’ve ever stumbled into?

One of my favorite things about Reddit is accidentally discovering super niche communities that I never knew existed.

Sometimes I’ll click on a random link and end up in a subreddit dedicated to something incredibly specific, and somehow it has thousands of active members lol

Should manufacturers be legally required to provide 'simplified' UI modes for seniors?

As a Gen Z who regularly helps my grandmother with her smartphone, I've realized that modern phone UIs can be really overwhelming for seniors. Like there are too many menus, tiny buttons, pop-ups, and settings which can make even simple tasks frustrating... For context she is in her 70's so even a simple ad pop up throws her off lmao. I know some phones have 'easy' modes but even that doesn't feel that much intuitive (at least in our experience).

Does anyone else think simplified UI modes should be standard for all smartphones?

Dashcams should just come standard built into every single vehicle

I know some cars already come with built-in dashcams, only some, but tbh I think this should be standard on every vehicle regardless of the model or brand…

Like considering how common accidents and insurance disputes nowadays, I’m still surprised dashcams still aren’t mandatory or at least a standard?

Agentic AI workflows sound great on paper but is anyone actually letting autonomous agents run their business?

Everywhere I go, I see discussions on the topic of agent AI and autonomous workflows as the next big thing in business.

On the surface, it looks good: AI managing emails, customer support, scheduling, reporting and other mundane tasks without any human interaction involved.

But does anyone dare to trust agents with some critical business processes? I guess that I would be wanting to have an actual human review whatever agents have prepared.

What about those who did implement agent AI workflows…how autonomous are they and how useful they are in practice?

Are smart glasses actually useful yet?

So far, most of the people I see using devices like the Meta glasses are creators/influencers who use them mainly for filming content for tiktok or ig reels… Outside of that, I rarely see regular people wearing them.

For those who own smart glasses, do you actually use them daily, or do they end up sitting in a drawer after the novelty wears off?

As a junior dev, should I fight the no-code boom or learn to extend it?

I'm a comp sci fresh grad with a full stack web development internship experience, and I'm currently job hunting (it's not looking good so far lol).

Lately, I've been seeing some job postings adopting no-code/low-code tools (AI) and it got me wondering if as a junior dev should I be resisting this trend and focus on purely trad development, or should I learn how to work with and extend these platforms? I'm kinda torn right now, part of me feels that no-code tools won't replace developers anytime soon, but another part of me thinks that adapting early might be a smart career move..

Xiaomi, Huawei, or Oppo?

Been looking at Chinese android phones lately and honestly these three brands seem to be dominating the conversation and tbh I think affordability is the main factor for this.

Like they all make really solid phones nowadays especially in the flagship space... If you had to pick just one brand, which one would you go for?

What's your tech edc?

My tech EDC is pretty minimal, I only carry these: a 5000 mAH powerbank and an open ear clip earphones lol and ofc my phone (wasn’t in the pic since I used it for taking this picture). I wonder if I’ll add more in the future. But so far I don’t need that much since, I don’t really need to carry a lot of gadgets on a daily basis.

What’s in your tech EDC?

What's a piece of tech you refuse to replace no matter how old it is?

I still have an old external hard drive, which I have used for years now, however, even though it is ancient in comparison to the latest SSD drives, I cannot replace it.

It functions properly, contains all my backups, and it simply seems inappropriate to stop using it now.

What’s a device you refuse to replace even though it’s old?

If you could bring back one discontinued tech product, what would it be?

For me, it would have been the iPod Classic…Even though smartphones have practically made all specialized music gadgets redundant, I do feel it was quite nice to have a gadget whose sole purpose was to play music and not have all the other distractions which a smartphone does.

Which product from the past, if any, would you like to resurrect?

What's your go-to phone color?

Somehow, every time I change phones, I always end up choosing a white one.

The reason why I like white phones is that of their simple design. In addition, white phones tend to look good even after a while of use unlike phones of other bold colors.

What is your favorite phone color?
