Instagram pushes pro-Cornell rapist content when I look up "cornell"

I've consistently liked and reposted nothing but supportive content for the Cornell accuser known as Jane Doe. Everyone I follow is the same. The pro-accuser content is also much more popular on the app.

But almost all of the results I get when you look up Cornell are pro-rapist.

That reel in the first slide saying "The full truth about Jane Doe" (a bunch of rape apologia nonsense) has only 1.5M+ views and 49K+ likes, but Jasmine Nguyen's video siding with Doe, which has 2.9M+ views and 110K+ likes, is pushed further down.

I tried it again after engaging with some more pro-Jane Doe content and the search results are mostly the same.

Depp really paved the way for abusive and predatory men. 🫠 This is his legacy. No one even thinks of Jack Sparrow anymore when they mention him. He's just the guy who laid out a playbook for rapists. Astroturfing king

Article from 1987 about Cornell rapists

Apparently, the guys accused here are now a successful lawyer and judge respectively. This is depressing knowing a young woman was gang-raped in Cornell in 2024 and no criminal charges were filed. 30+ years later, and nothing changes.

Why the fuck do men systemically abuse women so much?

Mother blamed me for something again.

My post from yesterday: https://www.reddit.com/r/entitledparents/comments/1vc2it2/i_really_dont_know_why_i_give_her_a_chance/

I didn't get an apology from Mum, but she did start to act super nice today. We went out as a family and it was lovely. I thought tonight might be peaceful. And then...

My mum started yelling at me for "leaving a bottle in the bathroom." I looked at it and it was the water bottle my stepdad brought from work the other day. Definitely not mine. She says no one else would do something this stupid. (She also said the other day that she doesn't trust me.)

My stepdad confirmed that it was his water bottle, and he put it there. Mum told him calmly to throw it out, even though she'd just spent the past ten minutes berating me over something I didn't do. Didn't apologise to me bc ofc.

Compared to shit she's done before like smashing glass with my head when I was in high school, this is nothing. But when does it end? I just wanted to have a peaceful night. Today was nice and I love my siblings. But my mum really won't stop being so mean. She just mentioned as well that she uses ChatGPT and I'm worried AI is telling her that acting shitty to me is justified or whatever.

I really don't know why I give her a chance

Family is so important to me and my culture - I live in the UK, but my background is Asian. I'm visiting my mum for the summer but it's only been a few days and she's already acting monstrous. She complained about pee not being flushed in a toilet I don't even use - her house has three toilets, lucky her - and randomly brought up my flatmate harassing me when I had internal bleeding a few months ago.

Getting harassed while bedridden and sick was one of the most traumatic moments of my life. Even my flatmate's best friend said what she did to me was extremely fucked up. I was ill and suicidal but my mum said, over the most nothingburger situation ever (pee in a toilet, the horror), that this must be why my flatmate harassed me. That I deserved it because sometimes I might not flush my pee.

In this case, it wasn't even me who didn't flush; we have other family members. It might've even been her. And even if I were responsible, it takes you one second to press the flush button? It wasn't like someone left that toilet smeared with shit. It was just pee. Pee. Referencing my illness, internal bleeding, evil roommate, and suicide attempt all because of unflushed piss.

I asked her if she regretted saying that and she said no. What the fuck is wrong with this woman? She's 50. What goes on in the mind of a parent like that? Why is my mum so devoid of basic empathy and understanding of what's wrong or right?

EDIT: She likes to bring up unrelated stuff when she's arguing with me, e.g. one time when I was a teenager, she brought up my crush on a fictional character while arguing about the dishes. What the hell is the correlation? Normally I'm just baffled, but right now she's crossed the line.

Films or shows about a celebrity taking advantage of fans

Hello, I've been thinking about how so many films and shows address the horrors of fame (sometimes literally), from the POV of the famous person, e.g. Smile 2 (2024).

Do you have recs for good films/shows from the flip side, showing how celebrities can abuse their power over fans or regular people? I can think of these so far:

• Jennifer's Body (2009) – a band ritually sacrifices the titular Jennifer, a teenage fan of theirs

• Opus (2025) – I haven't watched it in full yet tbh but it's supposed to be about a singer with a cult, right?

Thanks!

How to assert boundaries with mum who is controlling over my appearance

I'll keep some details vague for privacy reasons.

EDIT: For anyone who wants to ask why I have to pay for medicine

https://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/help-nhs-prescription-costs

"In England, most working-age adults have to pay for their prescriptions." I live here.

I'm an adult (20s) in the UK. I began living independently since I started university post-lockdown, but mum invited me to come live with her again a few years back. I figured it was OK because a lot of young adults do live with their parents due to the housing and employment crisis, but she kicked me out a few months after because she was abusive and she learned that I tried to document it.

She abused me both physically and verbally. I don't know why I still believed, and STILL BELIEVE, she can change. I never lose hope. I'm not an idiot by any means (academically very intelligent, according to all of my professors, and my grades reflect it) but I don't know why I never lose hope.

Anyway, although I've steadily lived alone for the past few years, my mum finds ways to control me still. One of the main ones is obsessing over my appearance. Whenever we hang out, I think, okay, I support myself now. I'm doing well. She'll respect me.

I'll feel like she does, but then she makes unsolicited comments about my appearance. Like, she thinks I should brush my teeth, or a comment about my weight, though doctors keep saying my BMI is very healthy. She even criticises the way I walk or laugh.

The most consistent thing is my hair. I have very thick, long hair. It looks messy a lot of the time. I'm aware of this. To be fair, other people have commented on it too, but they leave me alone after I say I don't really care. I work remotely anyway to sustain myself and my uni doesn't grade me based on my hair.

Like, it's messy. So what? I don't care. It doesn't harm anyone. There are worse things in the world than a hard-working 20-something with messy hair. But my mum is obsessed with it. By obsessed, I mean OBSESSED.

E.g. In 2024, I stupidly trusted her to receive money I was owed for WORK because my PayPal account was down. You know what she did with my salary? She pressured me to get a hair salon session I never wanted, telling me she'd pay for it, but she withheld my salary that I earned honestly from my employer because "the hair salon was costly and it was [my] fault for not taking care of my hair."

She only gave me my money when my aunt called her out for basically stealing my salary when I needed prescriptions (at the time, the clinic diagnosed me with an illness too).

Today, I got really upset with her again because she messaged me about a "special hairbrush that takes care of messy hair." I told her don't ever message me with this kind of thing again, but she couldn't take a hint or just ignored it. She said she'd buy it for me. I told her I don't want it, so don't buy it. She didn't reply.

She's been obsessed with my hair for years, to the point that she'd basically hoard my salary that I trusted her to receive for me. To the point that she'd endanger my life when I was ill and needed to buy prescriptions.

So yeah. I think some of you would advise me to just cut her off completely, but I lost my grandma this past year and a part of me really wants to spend time with my mum while she's still around. Like I said, I still have hope. There's been some improvement.

These days, my mum seems to fully respect that I'm a lesbian. She backs off sometimes when I tell her to stop being pushy. She even defended me from someone harassing me recently. (She used to suck at protecting me when I was younger, when I faced bullying and harassment from others.) But she's still obsessed with my hair and appearance. Does anyone have advice? Sorry for the long post.

For some reason, my friends' work keeps getting flagged as AI-generated. Why?

I'll probably delete this. I run a very, very niche indie publication. Even though it's niche, there's a lot of outside interest in it and I believe it could be really something special. These writers I have are in my generation, one is my age and the other is several years younger but still in my generation (we're all firmly Gen Z, post-2000 born). The point is, this is an indie pub for and by young adults. I really want to help them. I want us to succeed together.

They know I set up a strict anti-AI policy. For some reason, though, when I run it through different AI detectors, the detectors consistently (even more lax ones like GPTZero and Quillbot) flag it as AI-detected. All of them. It makes me so sad because I believe these people are hard-working. I do not want to believe that they would generate articles with AI even after I keep saying hey, please, let's not do that.

I don't even know why. These detectors do not flag my work as AI, even though readers have called it "sophisticated" writing. (My professional output is much less rambly than my post here, I promise.) I don't use AI to generate text at all, I can say that for myself, and I'm glad these apps can tell. But I don't know why it flags my co-writers' work. I know these people and they're genuinely intelligent. They can speak eloquently IRL when it's spontaneous and they can't use AI obvs. What the hell is happening here?

I'm asking not to judge but so I know what best to do (talk to them about it and...?) and prevent people from criticising our hard work as AI slop.
