Bullwhip Karate Kata? Looking for help developing a kata.

Hello Everyone,

Last night was my last karate class before the summer break. At the end of class I taught the sensei the basic whip cracking

When we ended he said that I should seriously consider creating a kata for next years karate tournament. He said the weapons category is pretty open and he has never seen a whip inspired kata in all his years. I thought about it today and doing a whip cracking routine is basically a kata, so I it might be a pretty cool idea.

I am wondering if you guys have any ideas for what techniques would work as a cool kata. Keep in mind I am older and a yellow belt in Shotokan.

Thanks!

Sheet Metal = Puppet Foam?

I am wondering...

I have a 2D SVG pattern for a puppet head. I have been trying to find a way to turn it into a 3D model so I can alter the pattern.

So far, no software has been able to do this. Which is odd...

I was wondering if it would be possible to use the Sheet Metal functionality in Fusion to do this? If I were to set the properties to the thickness and K factor of foam, could Fusion bend it into a curved 3D puppet head?

Digital Patterning? I can't find a viable solution.

This may seem like an odd question, but I have a 2D Pattern I got from a puppet maker and while it is good, I would like to alter it so the head shape is different.

With foam costing what it does where I am, I don't have the resources to trial and error my way to a pattern.

This got me thinking, perhaps there was a way to take the pattern and test it digitally. I created an SVG of the pattern and went looking. Turns out... it isn't easy.

My first thought was Pepakura. So I looked at paid and free versions, but unless I missed something most of them seem to want to start with a 3D model then make the pattern. I couldn't find any that did it in reverse.

I think tried Marvellous Designer. It worked to some degree because it can "sew" patterns, but it isn't built for rigid materials and so even though it made something resembling a head, it was basically fabric.

I looked into blender, but it looks like way too much manual work to make it a quick and effective method.

So, I'm reaching out to see if anyone has any leads that might work for this?

Thanks!

Cutting out patterns on the fold?

I have some puppet patterns that I would like to cut out on the Cricut maker 4. The body pattern calls for being cut along the fold. I am wondering if there is a way to do with with paper?

I've seen some videos online using fabric and how they use temporary fabric adhesive to keep the two sides together, but any idea how this could be done with paper?

Thanks!

Back Stance Foot Position: Advice for consistancy

Yes, I know... practice, but...

My Kata's are coming along really well except for some reason when transitioning into the Back Stance (Heian Shodan), my feet are never in the correct L shape. I'm having trouble stepping out with the weight on my one leg, but also finding consistency with my food placement.

Any tips and tricks I can try to practice getting my stances square?

Thanks!
