Electro’s “Thing” really should be Insecurity

Everyone always says Electro has the least going on character wise, as far as Spidey villains go. And yeah, while he’s definitely not the deepest, I also think that insecurity should be his “main thing” and leaned into more.

His Mom doubted him, leading to him applying as a pole man for the power company, and since he became their best one, he milked it, satiated his ego with it, to the dismay and endangerment of his peers. Hence, when he gets his powers, he’s typical with them ON PURPOSE. He steals valuables to be wealthy, tries to become a gang lord, and eventually just wants to kill Spidey all because he thinks that’ll fill that void in his self esteem.

Couple that with his MAYBE being a Mutant or Bi, causing him further things he thinks might alienate himself, causing further doubt in himself. Like, the best Spidey villains are usually deeper than just being bad- Electro is just insecure, and you can tie that back to Peter being insecure and bullied before his powers. The difference is Peter matured beyond/ dealt with insecurity by bettering himself and being Spidey. Max didn’t.

That’s why the best Electro stories (the whole handful) highlight Max wanting respect or to feel validated, either by achieving more sheer power, stealing something, making a name for himself, or just killing Spidey. Shocker is Spidey’s lovable loser (RIP), Rhino the conflicted tough guy, Lizard is the misunderstood monster, Otto the tortured genius, etc, etc. Max is just insecure, and he can’t sort these things out so, despite possessing godlike power, he’s just kinda….basic with it, because he’s hurting and deeply insecure.

If You were trying to make a Purist Custom Black Suit Spidey, which of These Heads (or another) would You Use?

Honestly, I’ve kinda surrendered my Black and Gold NWH Figure as a default “Black Suit Spidey” but the thought of a purist custom has always been at the back of my mind, so I leave it to the group- which one do You guys think works best, or is it a different one, in Your Opinion?

Most Recognizable Mask of the Two?

Spider-Man or Batman. Both great, but Mask alone, who is more recognizable, in Your Opinion?

Why Didn’t Peter ever just Blitz Venom?

We always hear “Spidey holds back”, which is slowly becoming his “prep time”, imo, but Whatever. So, how was Venom such an issue for him? Like, I know story wise why, and I really don’t care too much. It’s just, I don’t know, Venom is Lauded to a Spidey Villain all timer, but I never really got why PHYSICALLY, I suppose. Like, was all just the Spider Sense Immunity? Was there a time Peter finally got sick of it and walloped him? Everyone says Clone Saga was the first time Peter’s character started to really started to strain, but I’m starting to wonder why someone who has duked it out with Firelord let a gooey jerk threaten his loved ones for so long without at least trying to hand him a trouncing?

Look, I fully admit I’ve never been a Venom Fan, but I guess I’m asking those that were- Otto usually had a trap to distract him before a punch to the jaw, the Goblins were all mostly strength equals physically- how did Venom last so long in Universe without Spidey getting him to hesitate a least once, or did I miss it?

I just Realized This Today

Even though Peter didn’t sign up for it, the Cage Match probably helped his odds even more, if unintentionally, in that first movie. Like, he was pretty much a lock regardless, but the cage gave him anchor points for maximum agility, posing, and outdated quipping 😅

Personally, I’d rather watch them share a beer, but we all know what sells. So, which tough guy’s got it?

Like, Matt’s obviously older, but it’s established the Fantastic Four already exists in Matt’s initial run, and Spidey’s first issue. That and Spidey shows up on Daredevil’s first cover. Does this mean, despite Matt being older, Pete has an experience edge on him?
