I was under the impression that if I enrolled in 6 summer credits, I would receive 50% of the maximum Federal Pell Grant, which is $7,395 for the academic year. Based on that understanding, I expected my Summer Pell Grant to be enough to cover the cost of my summer classes.
However, after calling the Financial Aid Office, I was told that I would only receive approximately $800–$900 because my Summer Pell is calculated as 25% of the amount I received during the first semester, rather than 50% of the annual maximum. This was very surprising and disappointing because I had planned my summer enrollment with the expectation that the Pell Grant would cover most or all of my tuition.
Can you anyone please clarify whether this calculation is correct and explain why I am not eligible to receive 50% of the maximum Pell Grant for taking 6 credits during the summer? I want to make sure I fully understand how my award was determined.

I F(18) have always been extremely close to my family and my father. But recently he’s been doing things that have made me realize maybe I wasn’t seeing things as they really are. Just a week ago he kicked me out for telling him that I couldn’t babysit my younger sister if he was going to be overly sensitive about everything. He screamed at me and told me to pack my bags and find somewhere to live. The next morning I had all my clothes in trash bags and was sleeping on a relative couch. For father day I still sent him and a card and we had a conversation and he said that he would try to become better and that I had to follow his rules no matter what never questioning him. “If I tell you the sky is green, it’s green don’t argue” , I decided I was going to go back home and just try to get a job. I have never smoked, drinked, or go out. I recently finished my first year of college on a full ride. Now back to the story, for the past few days I’ve been back I’ve been cleaning the whole house as he asked me too while my other sisters who are young teens sit around and do nothing. Today I had a job interview that he was supposed to take me to and he screamed that he wasn’t going to take me cause I didn’t cook for my sister. Even though I spent the whole day cleaning and they’re old enough to cook for themselves I feel like I’m always doing something wrong in his eye. It feels as though he just hates me and I think I’m starting to hate him too. Any advice?
