VOO question

Is it named VOO because conveniently, "V" is the Roman numeral for 5, and OO looks like two zeros, making it "500", an easy way to tell what it's tracking?

If that's the thinking behind that trading symbol, I will admit that it's been over 10 years before I figured it out.

Smits still not signed

Every 2026 top-10 pick that is not committed to NCAA has already been signed by their team. The only exception is Smits. Why?

As a top 5 pick he's basically going to get the max ELC bonuses anyway. What's the holdup here?

Top coat for oak that preserves raw grain contrast

I have a built in bench seat that I made a red oak seat for. It's currently unfinished, but sanded to 180.

We like the current grain pattern and contrast of the unfinished wood - it's subtle contrast of the grain that gives it a natural feel, without the look of 1980s oak cabinets. We plan on doing a top coat only, no stain.

When testing top coats on a sample piece, they all enhanced the darker parts of the grain, thereby increasing the grain contrast. My understanding is that the water based poly that I was using, soaks more into the grain part which swells the pores and makes it darker. We want to avoid this as much as possible.

The current plan is to use Aqua Coat clear wood grain filler, then sand smooth, and finish with a water based clear matte poly. From all accounts this should be the best way to minimize the effect (although it likely wouldn't eliminate it)

Is this a good and workable plan? I want to avoid anything more complex like adding tints.
