Our own James Bond 🤌
Gopal, a secret agent, investigates the death of his colleague, who possessed evidence against a known terrorist(china). Gopal embarks on a journey to find the traitor.
In the 1960s, China was considered an adversary of India, and was often perceived as untrustworthy. Because of certain Indian film policies that restricted the negative depiction of foreign countries, China is never explicitly mentioned, but its involvement is clearly implied.
It is fascinating how movies reflect the geopolitics of that period. As soon as I saw the Chinese character (played by the fellow Indian), I knew that the movie was set in the post Indo-China war context.
Another strong aspect of the film is that it takes the detective theme seriously. It is somewhat superficial, but different from the typical Bollywood films of that era. One common issue I have of films from that period is that, regardless of the story, a large portion is often wasted on romance between the hero and heroine. This movie avoids that.
The film also gives attention to detail, which makes it a refreshing change from many movies of that time.
Great watch 🎬🍿
