I want to become a Health Inspector in Canada - Advice Needed

Hi there,

I really want to become a certified health inspector in Canada, however I am unsure on what steps i should take for the time being as I do not have the right background as others. For context, I have a B.A in International Development. Also, further complicating things slightly, i am currently unable to relocate provinces (mainly due to financial reasons) to attend one of the 6 accredited school fast track programs (2 years) to become a health inspector. I am hoping to move to Vancouver in 3 years or so, so that i could attend BCIT and do their env public health program then, when I am more financially stable.

I am also aware that a lot of people say CIPHI jobs are really oversaturated but I would be happy to do jobs of a similar nature with the credentials I would recieve after passing the exam.

In the meantime, I am not sure whether i should prioritze the following:

  1. Take a 1 year diploma in OHS at Western University so I can get slightly transferable skills, a job quickly (hopefully) and save up money for the program at BCIT

  2. Take some kind of environmental science diploma or go back and do a BSC in env science or public hwalth (since I already have a undergrad degree hopefully this could be shortened to two years instead of doing another 4). Benefit to this is that some of the credits in science i take might be transferable to the program at BCIT and I would be upgrading my science and math basics so I could do better in the program.

If anyone has industry knowledge or any general advice on what the best path would be for my situation i would really appreciat it, i do not know who to ask.

Hisense Double Ducts AC - is it good?

Partner and I on a budget, buying portable ac new as last summer the one we bought second hand broke and caused water damage to floor. Is this brand as as reliable as LG or other reccomended brands/units? Is there a better bang for your buck? We are not allowed window ac in our apartment. Hoping this could last at least 4 years +

How to become a certified food safety professional in Canada?

Hey there,

I am taking diploma in OHS next September but I found out about CP-FS and I am strongly interested in it since it has more to do with public health. I know about the steps to become CIPHI certified but I am confused as if you can become a specialist in the area of food safety without having to do 2-4 years of education because I currently cannot attend school and relocate to become a Public Health Inspector. I have a B.A in something unrelated.

So, to get started, would I need to take a certificate from a local college? Take all certifications in a bunch of different areas under food safety? Take an online course? I love food and public health. If anyone can point me in the right direction of what I should be looking into it would be very much appreciated, or, if you want to share your experience working in this career that would be great! thanks

Looking/Cherche for 1 or 2 Bedroom in Verdun, Rosemont, or Ville Marie

Bonjour!

My partner and I are both 26 year olds looking for a large 1 bedroom, or a regular 2 bedroom in Verdun, Rosemont, or Ville Marie pour louer (although we are flexible on location but not too far from Concordia) area for July 1st or August 1st, or even August 15th (flexible on start date as long as its before the start of the school year, but earliest July 1st). It must be pet friendly since we have two cats. Budget is between $1000-$1600 but hoping to find something for less than $1400. We would strongly prefer that the unit comes with basic appliances such as stove/oven for cooking and refridgerator. Laundry in the building would be great, or hookups so that we could purchase our own. Can provide past landlord references and credit score check. Please feel free to comment if you have something coming up and I will message you.

Merci beaucoup...
