Nightreign retrospective
Now that Elden Ring: Nightreign has been out for close to a year and it's unlikely we'll be getting any new content, I wanna say...
I'm disappointed
Or maybe dissatisfied is the word, part of the big appeal of Nightreign (which I'll refer to as NR from now on) is that it was a Dark Souls meets Elden ring in a souls rogue-lite package, and don't get me wrong, the game feels great to play, I have a bit over 200 hours into it, but it feels incomplete.
While yes, we did get Dark Souls content in the game, it didn't even feel secondary and more so as a way to bring in older fans.
What we do have feels bare bones, obviously NR was never gonna be a full on rogue-like, but rather a rogue-lite, yet I can't help but feel as though there isn't enough content (even including the DLC)
It really feels like a huge missed opportunity that they didn't add these things:
. DS weapons
. One or two new maps based on Caelid or Luirnia
. More bosses (especially DS bosses)
. More random events
. DS locations as shifting earths
. More skins for the characters
I know, so far this has been pretty negative, but I do like NR, it's been a blast to play with friends and even solo sometimes. I love the character variety with their abilities and move sets, I enjoy the movement.
It just feels like wasted potential, and I don't think it has a big enough modding community to keep it afloat for even the next 5, let alone 2 years.
