Recently applied for pip, how long does it take?

I know everyone will be different but I recently applied and wanted to know roughly how long it took? I've been on edge ever since

Had a crap day.

I work with bitching staff members and it's starting to really get to me. I know it happens in most places but when I've worked in factories or warehouse it's been far better. The banter was just banter. I could say I've been harassed but I can't prove it.

Jobs are tough to get, I could temp but then I was advised to not do it, even if I was desperate as at least I have income.

I don't know why I've written this.

Long-term retail burnout — what jobs did people move into?”

40 something and trying to get out of retail after nearly 10 years in the same place. It’s actually the longest job I’ve ever had and I used to genuinely enjoy it, but years of doing too many hours and constant pressure have completely burnt me out.

Doctor has advised time off and basically said I need to leave the environment. I’ve tried asking for more reasonable hours/shifts but work won’t really help me move to something more manageable.

I’m struggling because retail is mostly what I know now. I had some admin/office/finance experience years ago but it’s old enough that I don’t really feel confident calling myself experienced anymore.

I’ve started applying for warehouse jobs because I think I need something less customer-facing and mentally draining, even if it’s just a stepping stone. I’m also open to admin work if I can get my foot back in the door somewhere.

I have tried agencies a couple of times over the years, but I could never fully commit because I always had guaranteed money where I was and didn’t want to risk losing that stability.

Has anyone successfully moved out of long-term retail in their 40s? What jobs or industries did you move into that gave you a better work/life balance and less stress?

Any advice appreciated because I honestly feel a bit stuck at the moment.

Thank you.
