How did learning Revit API & Python change your career? (+ Thoughts on Erik Frits's course?)

Hey everyone,

I'm currently an architect working in the UAE. I regularly use Revit, Dynamo, Rhino, and Grasshopper, but I'm planning to transition into a specialized BIM or computational design role later this year.

To make that jump, I’m diving into architectural automation and programming using the Revit API and Python. I’d love to hear from those who have already gone down this path:

  1. The Career Impact: How did learning to program custom tools for Revit change your trajectory? Did it open doors to new roles, shift your day-to-day responsibilities, or impact your salary?
  2. Erik Frits's Course: I’m looking at professional bootcamps and specifically considering Erik Frits's LearnRevitAPI / pyRevit Bootcamp. Has anyone here taken it? How much value did it provide compared to figuring things out on your own, especially if you already have a grasp on visual programming like Dynamo?

Any insights on the learning curve, how you applied your first custom tools in a professional setting, or other resources to check out would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!

2024 Geely Emgrand (50k km) – Real talk on Reliability, Parts, and Resale in the UAE?

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking at a used 2024 Geely Emgrand with 74,000 km (correction- not 50k)on the clock for around AED 32k from the GEELY pre-owned showroom, Sharjah. It looks like a lot of car for the money compared to the Yaris or Lancers, but I have a few concerns before I pull the trigger.

I’d love to hear from current Emgrand owners or mechanics who work on them:

  1. Reliability: Any issues with the CVT or electronics after the 50k mark?
  2. Parts Availability: Is it strictly a "dealer-only" car for parts, or are aftermarket options/Sharjah scrap yards starting to stock Geely components? How long are the wait times for common parts?
  3. The "Resale" Reality: We all know Japanese cars hold value like gold here, but for those who have traded in or sold a Geely recently, how bad is the hit? Is the depreciation as scary as people say?
  4. Service Experience: How is the service at AGMC? Are they easy to deal with for warranty claims?

Appreciate any insights. Trying to decide if the modern tech is worth the potential "Chinese car" trade-offs. Thanks!

2024 Geely Emgrand (50k km) – Real talk on Reliability, Parts, and Resale in the UAE?

Hi everyone, I’m currently looking at a used 2024 Geely Emgrand with 50,000 km on the clock for around AED 32k. It looks like a lot of car for the money compared to older Sunnys or Lancers, but I have a few concerns before I pull the trigger.

I’d love to hear from current Emgrand owners or mechanics who work on them:

  1. Reliability & Heat: How does the AC hold up in 45°C+ UAE summer traffic? Any issues with the CVT or electronics after the 50k mark?
  2. Parts Availability: Is it strictly a "dealer-only" car for parts, or are aftermarket options/Sharjah scrap yards starting to stock Geely components How long are the wait times for common parts?
