Might Return Sonos Beam due to LG Issues

Picked up a nice 55' LG OLED C5 and love it. Paired it with the Sonos Beam Gen 2 which is pretty awesome. The problem is trying to connect to a wired speaker (my bluetooth AirPods Max.)

When I put a disc into my Blu Ray player and try to switch to Wired Speaker, it connects for two seconds and then defaults back to HDMI E-arc. I finally found some threads and articles from three to five years ago that have the same problem. The advice was to turn off SIMPLINK HDMI CEC and disable E-arc. That works but it's a pain to go through all that. The other option was to just pull out the HDMI cable from the soundbar every time I want to play a movie. That works but its also a pain.

Even though the sound on the Beam is fantastic, I will mostly have to listen through headphones because I like my movies LOUD. My condo neighbors, not so much.

Someone also suggested a CEC blocker, but I heard that it cuts out Atmos. Anyone have any other suggestions? I really like the Beam, but this sound issue is a real Debbie Downer.

Cheers.

C5 and HDR

I know it doesn’t support HDR10+. But why is it that when I play Reacher on Prime I get the HDR badge but not when I play The Boys or Rings of Power, which are also HDR content?

I can’t change it in the picture menu either. HDR is not an option. When I play Reacher the picture menu says HDR.

Back Panel B7a and C6 evo AI

Have a 55’ B7a and thinking of upgrading to C6. I had the B7 professionally mounted. Wondering if the back of the C6 is the same as the B7. Probably not I’d assume? I can’t get a full take on it just from google images.

Song Title

What’s the song Henry was singing along to a few episodes back? I thought it was on Side Stories. It was so funny I felt bad for laughing. They sounded like kids but they were adults.

Is this how it’s done here?

Just picked up Barry Lyndon, Birth and Cronos. The others I’ve had a while. Barry Lyndon will be my first watch. I’ve never seen it! I know. Embarrassing. Seen other Kubrick films but never got around to it. Seeing it on sale was a gift.

Really looking forward to Cronos as well. I had an old 1080p from ages ago so it’s nice to get the Criterion treatment. Love Jonathan Glazer and Birth is the only film of his I don’t own and only saw once. I’m happy.

A Few Series I've Watched Lately

These are all old series I never got around to watching. No spoilers, so safe to read if you have yet to watch these:

The Crimson Petal and the White

Wow. very engrossing. I thought Romala Garai was incredible in this role. While I was watching, I was thinking: is this the same woman that played Emma? Talk about range. The series was bleak and moody, and I was quite surprised by the sexual content for a BBC show. They certainly didn't shy away from anything. I was also surprised to see Chris O’Dowd in this. I'd only seen him in comedic roles. He was quite perfect for the part. Has anyone read the novel by Michael Faber? Does the series do the book justice?

The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders

Interesting. Quite overwrought, but Alex Kingston gave her all in the role, you could just tell. It was fun to see a young Daniel Craig in this as well. I saw that there is an adaptation with Robin Wright and ....Morgan Freeman? Well that sounds quite interesting. Has anyone seen it?

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall

Loved it. It really took me by surprise from the first moment. The soundtrack was very curious, kind of witchy and medieval-esque, much different from your typical period drama. Tara Fitzgerald was sublime. I've always liked her. I'd completely forgotten that she was in Game of Thrones as Stannis' wife! Also weird to see Rupert Graves play such a villainous character. Toby Stephens was really good and sympathetic as well.

Bleak House

"Shake me up Judy!"

Oh my god. I'd forgotten so much about this adaptation. I'd seen it before, years ago, and did a rewatch. Has to be one of the best period dramas of all time. Everything about it is perfect--from Charles Dance and his icy glares to the bumbling Guppy played by Burn Gorman. But, man, the "Shake me up Judy!" bits are beyond compare. So nuts! I like how the camera just has to stay on her face as he commands to be “shaken up.” Pure brilliance.

Jane Eyre 2006

Believe it or not, the only version I ever watched was the film with Mia Wasikowska, which I remember liking. Need to watch again, though. The series had been on my watchlist for years and I finally got around to watching it. I really liked this version and thought that Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens worked well together and had good chemistry.

The Making of a Lady

I came across this movie on PBS and decided to give it a try. It started out okay, but in the second act it devolved into the most bizarre period drama I've ever seen. The film is full of racist stereotypes. It's so blatant, I don't see how anyone can not see it. I found an old Reddit thread where people were praising it and I'm thinking: surely, someone in this thread has to see this garbage for what it is, but nope. Sad.

The book is based on a novel by Francis Hodgson Burnett (The Secret Garden) and I can see how, at its time, the stereotypes in the book must have been quite "normal" or expected. But to see ITV produce this in 2012, without realizing it's offensive is astonishing. This article does a much better job of explaining why than I ever could:

The Camomile Lawn

I just started this last night. Truly not what I expected, but loving it so far. (Please. No spoilers if you've seen it!)

Wives & Daughters/ The Way We Live Now

Two series I’ve been trying to find but to no avail. Thanks to Reddit suggestions I found them both on DVD at my local library!

Vanity Fair 1998

Has anyone seen this version written by the Period Drama King, Andrew Davies? I can’t find it anywhere. And I still can’t find/watch the version with Olivia Cooke either. It’s listed on Amazon Prime but says not available in your region. (US)

Up Yours Downstairs

I’m wondering how many fans have heard of or listened to this podcast. It was hosted by comedian Kelly Anneken and her then husband, Tom Schneider. I found their recaps absolutely hilarious. Kelly’s impersonations—especially Mrs. Hughes—“For fu*^*’s sake, Mr. Carson!” still crack me up.

At the end of each episode, Tom did a little history lesson on some of the topics in the show.

I did a full series rewatch a year ago and listened to the recaps again as I had forgotten most of the content. Their humor is not for everyone and can be a little raunchy but I found it entertaining.

Trivia Moment: Kelly’s ex-husband (now Amy Schneider) is a jeopardy! Champion. They actually came back together to do a recap of the final film.

Mobland

Anyone watching this show on Paramount Plus? I find it strange that a show with Helen Mirren, Tom Hardy and Pierce Brosnam doesn't seem to be on the cultural TV watercolor.

Is it any good? Do we have so many shows now in this prestige era of TV that some just fly under the radar? None of the TV recap podcasts I listen to cover it.

I'm going to check it out myself, finally, but I want to hear from people who've seen it.

Please, no spoilers, just an overview of what you think.

Thanks

eta: thanks for all the replies. gonna give it a shot.

I'm Glad We Won This Way

Sure, beating Palace at Selhurst Park would have been a massive moment. But who knows what that game would bring? Palace has nothing to lose but you know football: anything can happen at any moment.

For me, it was much more joyous to see Bournemouth beat City (even though it was a draw) because City lost a championship. Seeing the miserable faces of those players brought a lot of joy.

They bottled it!

Death in Ice Valley

This was one of my Top Ten podcasts: an investigative look into a decades-old mystery.

I also enjoyed The Shrink Next Door, Exposed: Cover-Up at Columbia University, Kill List,

Sweet Bobby: My Catfish Nightmare, The Somerset Man, and others whose names don't come to mind at the moment.

Does anyone have any recs for series like these? I've started several but they don't always hold my interest. Not looking for true crime, unless it's a case long ago in the past.

Thanks!

Thanks for all the recs everyone! I've got some listening to do!

ETA. Forgot to mention Unicorn Girl, which I'm listening to right now. It's absolutely nuts. No spoilers if you've already heard it please!
