Exchange student premed

Hi,

I am going on exchange Jan of 2027 which is during my 4th year, so it would be the last semester. I can get my original transcript of the grades from the host institution (it shows on my normal transcript as pass/fail).

Any insight on how this would affect Ireland, Canada, or USA MD/DO applications is greatly appreciated!

DO prereq requirments

Hi, this is more of a general question and my apologies if it has been asked before. I am applying from Canada so a lot of the requirements as an international student are kinda fuzzy and we don't really have prereqs here in Ontario either. I have most prerequisites for most DO schools but would be missing 2 orgo chems and a second physics. I have all the gen chems, gen bios, anatomy (1 sem), stats (1 sem), 2 maths, 1 physics, and biochem (1 sem). While I don't have classes from the english department, I have a lot of "essay" classes, not sure how that translates in the states.

My question is: since I am applying for the 2028 cycle in 2027 (bc I am writing my MCAT this Aug, so I wouldn't want to apply until the next cycle), would I be able to still apply to DO schools and have a conditional offer where I can still be accepted as long as I complete the necessary requirements during my 5th year? And to follow up, would that impact my application GPA in any way?

Thank you! and apologies if this was quite wordy lol.

We have all heard the saying to not live with friends in university and I am no exception. I knew this going into uni and decided to live with a few girls I knew previously but was not super close with thinking it would be ok bc we weren’t really “friends” more like acquaintances but nonetheless I still felt more comfortable living with someone I sorta knew? Maybe bad on my part in retrospect.

Anyway, she’s super clingy. Stalks my location all the time, doesn’t help that we went to the same high school so even when we are not in school, she cares about where I am often inviting herself to my plans based on my location patterns. Ex. If I’m at the gym 5 days a week, she’ll ask when the next time I’m going is (mind you, I don’t tell her I’m going to the gym, she just knows bc she has my location). Normally I wouldn’t mind but I just feel weird that she knows where I am like all the time. As for the location sharing, it started when we moved in more as “safety” measures or knowing who’s home when etc.. she’s pretty strict about the location sharing for some reason and even goes out of her way to tell people when she is unsharing her location which makes me feel like I can’t necessarily do that to her bc she made it a big deal in the past ykwim? She also is pretty confrontational but to the point where small things that don’t affect other people come up in conversation w her and it becomes a looooong conversation that ends up (in my opinion) with no resolution, mostly makes me feel like she wanted to rant and even almost argue. I understand communication and resolving conflict maturely, but it’s getting to the point where it’s just a little repetitive and time consuming. Point is, it’s pretty stressful living in this situation because we share multiple mutual friends and I am in an awkward situation where I don’t feel comfortable drifting away bc we r still roommates, but also bc I’m scared of another confrontation. Idk in the past I’ve just naturally drifted away from friends which I feel like is normal. Never had a “breakup” conversation or anything. Not sure if that’s normal either lol.

So how would you guys suggest moving forward with this? My current position is being as neutral as possible but this has led to her talking to my other roommates about how I don’t make effort and how I’m closer to everyone else in the house instead of her. But continuing being friends with her is super mentally draining also bc she likes to compare herself to everyone and makes it known when she does. Should just thug it out for the last year? It feels pretty fake to do that or initiate plans so it’s a really awkward place to be in and I’m unsure what to do😭

im studying for my mcat right now and am planning on applying to canada this upcoming cycle (2026 october). when should i book casper for?

i also want to apply to states/ireland next year (bc of rolling admissions and my late mcat i wont give myself a fair shot this cycle so i will apply 2027) so when should i book casper for that? based on my understanding, they're two diff tests for canada and states so some clarification is greatly appreciated! and any tips on casper haha

idk if this is a dumb question but..

many people choose to apply to the states at a DO school rather than international such as ireland or carribean bc of geographical proximity, and the fact that you can still match into us residency for the most part.

however, some schools require a letter from a practicing DO, which can be hard to find in canada. so my question is why have i seen significantly more doctors in canada who have done medical school internationally (not just ireland, ive seen carribean, dubai etc..) but ive never encountered a DO physician? is this purely by chance or are there other reasons?

im thinking of applying to DO schools but the lack of DO doctors in canada makes me question if id ever be able to practice back here.

For context, I decided on settling down on the kaplan books, and milesdown deck (that is organized into chapters). I took university level classes for all topics except physics 2 (but I did it in highschool) and organic chemistry. I know the recommended timeframe for content review is about a month in my scenario (studying in the summer May-Aug and my exam is mid Aug), but it is so hard for me to throughly get through everything and make sure I grasp it.. should I focus on getting through the content and going through the anki decks? There's just so many things I need to practice before I feel confident ex. chem word problems and nomenclature, or physics word problems.

Not sure how to proceed, I just feel like there is so much and by the end of it I may still know nothing.
