Are hiring managers really turning down candidates that have better credentials than themselves?

I hear that this is why people are leaving their masters degrees of their resume because some HMs have a chip on their shoulders when they review a resume and it’s almost too impressive even for them….

An example is my friend. He has a Bachelors in CS and a MBA. He was in the interview process and the recruiter pushed it along. The HM reviewed the resume and their LinkedIn profile and shortly later got the automated “We are pursuing other candidates.

I guess this HM, who is the director of the IT department forgot to anonymously look at my friends LinkedIn because upon discover the director of IT has never worked a normal IT job, doesn’t have a relevant degree in IT and only two associate degrees (AAS).

My friend probably said beyond his formal education and experience, he likely asked for too high a salary.

Where can I buy the cheapest Subaru Warranty Gold package?

I decline it at the dealership when I bought my car initially, saw people saying they got 10/100k/0 or 10/100k/100 for about $2500 and my dealership just quoted me over
$3200+8% taxes and fees. No way am I paying that. Surely there’s cheaper?

Would you recommend buying the Subaru Gold Warranty?

Title is pretty self explanatory. With a new car and all the safety features that’s a lot to recalibrate and fix when the car has some miles on it. Has anyone broke even or even was saved in thousands in repairs by having the warranty? I hear it’s the only one worth it.

Considering on joining the family

Hey.

Rn I’m looking to trade in my current car and put about 4k down towards a 2026 Outback.

I found one that’s MSRP 48k but with dealer discount 44k
They offer two financing deals.

0% financing (but they won’t discount the MSRP, I think this is only for 48 months)
OR 1.9% financing with discount. (72 mo)

My credit is good so I don’t have any doubts I’ll qualify for either. At best I expect a 6k trade in value for my current car.

No dealer fees for handling and such.

Advice? I will test drive it soon.

So, you think military is the only valid option being pushed right now?

I mean people can’t:
- Can’t get a job in Fast Food or Retail. Retail looks understaffed on purpose at this point, they won’t even staff self checkout. But only have 5 actual humans max working the register

- High school kids can’t even get minimum wage job due to it being a ghost job or too many older applicants

- Having a degree means nothing. You either have 3+ years of experience in exactly everything mentioned or your resume gets thrown away (Exception: Nepo hire)

- Civilian (fed) gov jobs are mainly contracted out so less pay and benefits all around, gov can cancel contract at any time so no safety. State/local gov jobs are basically nonexistent as they’re also downsizing (while posting jobs to show they’re “rapidly growing.”

- Civilian defense contractors (Lockheed, BAE Systems, etc) are hiring but won’t hire qualified applicants because they don’t want to pay for clearance sponsor ship. Their requirements are literally (be a warm body with a HS diploma/ clearance and we will take you, otherwise don’t bother!)

- Most internships I’ve seen don’t turn into FTE unless it’s “in the budget” One of my prior tech internships said this and yet increased the # of hours for the outsourced worker in Chile. (did I mention outsourcing yet?) they expected me to work $20 an hour with zero benefits.
L-O-L

Sorry for the rant, but I’m getting the feeling this is all on purpose.

I am certain I’ve seen every single job that I’ve applied to reposted for the past 6 months. If they’re not “going with other candidates.” Then what are they doing ?

At this point I’m just going to hold onto the job I have and quit applying.

Don’t get me wrong, I like my current job but it is a job that would be classified as “under-employed.” And I’m looking to move up.

Now I know that every market is different across the U.S. but I started applying to new jobs in January of this year, I get interviews, I go through the rounds, but at the end I don’t get chosen due to:

- Not enough experience
- We want a unicorn, you aren’t it.
- We outsourced the role.
- This role has been cancelled.

And of course, the job is reposted.

I honestly don’t see things getting better until mid or late 2029. Inflation is hard to break, companies keep laying off and downsizing, and things are only getting more expensive. Only way out of this is a collapse and another slow recovery again.

Just did a network engineer role for a Fortune 500 and am confused.

Hey all, I had a network engineering final technical interview (2 total, passed the phone and HM screen prior) and I am left confused on how I feel about it.

It seems to me that companies don’t know what they want to hire for? The company specifically wants a Network Engineer but during the interview they asked more about react skills and general SWE like questions.

Now, I’m not saying that programming skills isn’t nice to have. (And I do have them) But none of this was mentioned in the job description. It didn’t help that one interviewer said “We are looking to hire a unicorn.”

Has anyone else applied for a tech role that turned out to be a SWE role just titled differently? I studied all of my CCNA topics apparently for nothing as they were more interesting in agile methodology experience.

Company canceled position because over 100+ applicants didn’t fit the role needs.

This is absolute bullshit.

I applied to a job where the company admitted there were 100s of applicants to their position. (They were so gleeful for this.) and said they they’d go over to see who is the best first.

Yet somehow, today they canceled the position because they claimed NOBODY had qualifications to fill the role and they would reassess requirements.

I think the reality is.
1.) They don’t want to train.
2.) They want to hire but at a lower salary and nobody is budging.
3.) They want a unicorn.
4.) This was all a show to justify hiring H1B or offshoring.

I can see why people after months of applying give up.
