What’s the best Weekend/Sunday newspaper?

So far in 2026, I’ve only bought the FT Weekend. I used to get the Irish Times with it, but got absolutely sick of all the opinion and analysis pieces and just wasn’t reading large swathes of it.

What I like about the FT is it predominantly reports the news from the week.

But it’s obviously lacking on Irish news and other mainstream news.

Any recommendations - must be in print and a weekend (preferably available on Saturday) paper.

M2M suit sleeve

Tailor says the jacket sleeves fall fine. He’s willing to shorten them, but thinks they’re the right length.

He thinks I need longer sleeves on the shirt. Is he right?

Do Cork politicians respond?

I used to live in Galway and Dublin. Any time I raised an issue by email to a councillor or TD, I’d get an email response from their office. This could be good or bad feedback on local projects, raising community issues, etc.

So far in Cork I’ve emailed 4 councillors, a TD, and an MEP in 3 years.

Nothing.

Do they just not engage with their constituents here?

[Tudor/Rolex] Thoughts on getting a Rolex after a Tudor

My luxury watch collection now stands at two as of two weeks ago. I began with the Tudor 1926 four years ago and then got the datejust.

I’ve moved slowly, which I think is the right path, allowing me to ruminate over what the next one will be and crucially spend extended time with the current one. Over three-ish years, I’ve thought about getting several different models but kept coming back to the DateJust. Totally content with where I settled.

The 1926 has been a great watch and will continue to get a lot of wear. Over the four years it’s got sentimental attachment that I think is important for timepieces, and captures a phase of my life.

The DateJust is a better watch - I can tell - and you’d expect that at three times the price. The movement is far superior to the 1926’s modified Selita - it keeps better time and the power reserve is excellent. The design philosophy is better - there is nothing I would change aesthetically (why on earth did Tudor not make the date window black and gold for this variation??), and the micro adjustment on the clasp is so much better to have.

But it’s also flagged to me how good the Tudor is and how much I still appreciate. The construction is excellent and, despite no micro-adjustment, its bracelet is very comfortable.

I wouldn’t say no to another Tudor, but I’m not sure that’s where I’ll go next

What’s the view and opinion of the listed buildings system for dwellings?

I’m curious to know what the general consensus is around architectural preservation of residential buildings in the UK (e.g. Grade I, Grade II). Is it considered a pain in the arse? Is it too broad or too narrow? Has it worked to preserve buildings and is that supported?

Having written that I realise I may sound like a journalist or researcher. I’m just from another country, interested in old buildings and disappointed with what successive governments have allowed to happen to cities. Looking from the outside in, the UK’s system seems very good.

Anyone a member DLTC?

Hi,

Am looking for a tennis-social club. Douglas Tennis seems a good option.

Anyone a member here who could speak to whether it would be good for a couple of beginners looking to get serious about tennis and to get to know more people in Cork.
